Of course, if you're going to spoof something, you might as well write 256GB on there Those things are such a nightmare if you are producing software that people are going to plug USB sticks in to. They don't just have the high number written on the outside, they have enough of a hack inside that t...
A fair warning on WDs: I'd recommend avoiding any WD drive which has IntelliPark enabled (yes, they sometimes enable it on desktop drives, even on some Blacks). Every problematic WD drive I've had to troubleshoot or replace has been a victim of excessive head parking. They seem to last between 300 0...
Looks like it's default installing W10 there?...If that's true I need to go to work tomorrow to disable automatic updates and ensure it's not going to make me reinstall 7....FU microsoft...FU. Yes, it's trying to. I'm really hoping this is phased gift attack, and that I'm at the front of the list s...
In my opinion, anyone running a Core 2 Quad/Phenom II X4-era or newer CPU and doing a CPU upgrade before an upgrade to solid-state storage is going be disappointed as they will still be waiting all the time for their hard drive. That said, while an SSD is certainly going to have a bigger "wow&q...
I will buy Galaxy S6. Definitely the best-looking Samsung phone ever. No removable battery but I am gonna try something new and have pre-ordered a 4200mah extended battery case out off mpj already. My only concern is the steep price, so I probably will wait for a couple of weeks until price drop a ...
Well, my own entirely empirical evidence points against the so-called "winrot". My own Windows 7 OS was installed as soon as it was released in October 2009 and so far, I have not seen the need to reinstall (and I like a snappy system). In that time it has been migrated at least three time...
Hi huys, quick question on the topic: With TRIM enabled on an SSD, isn't overprovisioning basically the same as just having some free space on it? is it different on the hardware(controller) level? As far as I understand it, the drive needs empty blocks in order for the wear levelling to function op...
IMO, both cards are too slow to fully utilize 2GB of RAM, especially on a 128 bit bus. I would just go with the 650Ti with 1GB if I were you, unless you have a specific task in mind which requires tons of VRAM :). Ninja Edit: This article explains the difference pretty clearly: The GTX650 is an over...
From my ovserations, each card only drives the displays it is connected to. The type of connection to the display shouldn't matter, but as a last resort you could experiment with that, too. For two displays, though, the GT210 might actually be too slow (or have too little VRAM). I ended up replacing...
Usually 65nm Conroe-based Core 2 Duos would go to around 350MHz FSB with stock cooling (at least this is what I've managed with an E6600 and stock cooling), so your particular model with a high FSB and low multiplier is not ideal for overclocking. That said, I have managed to get an E6750 (stock was...
+1 for the sensor dust. It is most prominent at long focal lengths and small apertures, so try a zoom lens at full telephoto and closed all the way down to confirm. As for cleaning, there are many dslr cleaning kits out there. First I would try one of the many blower kits available. Most of the dust...
Also, maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen this mentioned: http://startisback.com/#features-tab StartIsBack provides a Win7-like start menu and so many options but is a bit cheaper than Start8. $3 vs $5 may not sound like much, but hey, this functionality should have been included with Win8 to beg...
Also, a heads-up if you ever need to run a virtual Windows XP for whatever reason, as a Windows 7 user you are entitled to using Windows XP Mode, which is basically an XP VM inside a customized version of Virtual PC. The bonus is that the WinXP inside comes activated for free as long as your Win7 ho...
You know, I hope, Adobe has released Photoshop CS2 for free. What? :o That Adobe link doesn't say, at least to me, free for all. It says that if you are so far out of the mainstream that you still need to run CS2, we'll give you a little help. After all, the phrase "The serial numbers below sh...
Jorden, I think your subjective feel of lag and sluggishness is due to the high input lag of the TV - I have personally experienced this myself. They simply weren't made with this usage in mind and therefore have significantly higher input lag compared to purpose-built monitors. As for the lack of s...
Holy mother of necro threads! :D Just kidding, of course, welcome to the TR Forums. ;) First of all, I wouldn't worry about the AC voltage in your house damaging your batteries. The charger usually does a good enough job filtering any spikes/dips in voltage to protect the laptop itself. In most case...
Well, if you don't insist on using IE10, reverting to IE9 is the easiest option. Try using System Restore to revert to a point before the IE10 installation and see how that goes.
Also, make sure the RAM on the laptop you're trying to upgrade is in SODIMMs and is user-accessible. Some macbooks have soldered-on memory to reduce the thickness (and prevent upgrades, instead suggesting you buy new laptop). Which macbook are we talking about?
If it doesn't boot with the E2200 as well, it sounds like the mobo is bad. Had it booted, that would point to an old BIOS version, but since it doesn't, it's most likely the mobo. If you still want to poke around the system, inspect the socket for bent/deformed pins or the capacitors around the sock...
Or, if you want to go with 5GHz on the budget side, this might not be a bad option: http://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-450Mbps-Dual-Band-Wireless-TL-WR2543ND/dp/B006YCHW5O/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354139974&sr=1-1&keywords=WR2543ND Unfortunately, it doesn't support DD-WRT yet...
Well, other than trying to find drivers on Dell's website (if for some reason Dell PCs require custom GPU drivers), it's either a bad Windows requiring a reset or a failed/failing GPU, I fear. There will probably be warranty stickers all over it and if so, swapping GPUs for a test is out of the ques...
Have you tried putting the WD in your friend's laptop after testing it on another PC? Bad contact could be at fault here, try cleaning the pins on the HDD as well as the port on the laptop and try again. Also, you could try resetting the BIOS to default settings if you haven't already. :) Very weird...
Around 180W for these components: Q9550 @ 3.83, X48 mobo, 4 sticks of RAM, 8800GTS 512, 5 HDDs, Xonar DX and a bunch of fans. Reading this topic makes me wonder if I should upgrade for the power savings alone.
Hey, great rig you built there! I see on the last pic that there is no crossfire bridge between the two 6950s. Try connecting one if you haven't already (a bridge should come with each Radeon) as it is believed to increase performance slightly.
A question: is it the phone makers or the cell network providers (e.g. AT&T or Verizon) that make it hard to upgrade the Android OS to ICS? Both help for it. Here's how the cycle goes: Google releases a new version of Android to phone makers => phone makers customize it, add specific features a...
Is that an HP? IIRC they have a sort of adapter that plugs into a SATA 2.5" drive and then slides into that connector, supposedly for easier mounting (BS if you ask me ).
Nope, it's true, the prices have basically skyrocketed after the Thailand floods. The TR has it explained in several articles, like this one: http://techreport.com/discussions.x/21956 Hope this clears things up.
EDIT: Quite unfortunately, I'm not located in the USA or Canada, so I'm out of the game. :x Anyway, good luck to you guys! The prizes are really great this time. Well, personally, I'm a bit of an audioholic so I listen to music on a Xonar DX with a pair of AKG K324P headphones (I know, I know...
By the way, welcome to all the new gerbils who signed up for the contest and shared their pics with us. Hopefully we'll see you around! I've found my second home, only problem is reading all the post's you guys have made over the years :D I don't want to miss anything out :P I hear you, buddy. :win...
Hi guys! Here's my take: RAM: http://i36.tinypic.com/2qns3n8.jpg CPUs (I do believe this is among the best shots of s.370 celerons ever http://hardwarebg.com/forum/images/smilies/gtzvetkov/ghi.gif ... They look so delicious :P ) http://i38.tinypic.com/33dgnb9.jpg
