Re: Phoenix Point goes Epic-exclusive after Fig crowdfunding based on Steam/GOG

I don't usually post in the forums much, but now I am pissed . Phoenix Point (from X-COM creator Julian Gollop) suddenly goes Epic-exclusive after Fig crowdfunding based on Steam/GOG. I'm not going to debate the Epic Store's merits or demerits here, but basically... you don't do this . Good thing t...

If you don't care about viewing angle and sound quality, the TCL 6 series is hard to beat on picture quality for the price.

If you use wifi as your primary connection, you can set that connection to be a "metered connection". That will kill the updates. No way to stop them if you are using a wired connection.

Any surefire and easy ways to track down drivers for a laptop?

Inherited a Samsung laptop recently. Dead hard drive. Samsung website doesn't have drivers for that seem to work for the Bluetooth or webcam for the NP700z5b for Win 7...and the dang laptop shipped with Win 7. Anyone have any advice on surefire ways to track down drivers easily?

IMO, the OLED displays that LG and Sony are currently making are just as good as any plasma ever was, without the downsides of plasma, like heat and weight. The price remains high, though. I don't see a need to continue to baby your plasma from the angle that there are no suitable replacements.

Re: OK I finally had with binge drinking soda.

Not to be too preachy, but there really isn't any beverage that you should be drinking other than water if health is your main concern. Even coffee, tea, and milk have their downsides. I'll be the first one to admit that this is a really hard goal because all those sugary drinks taste really damn go...

Re: OK I finally had with binge drinking soda.

Find yourself a nice sweet whole food (like a perfectly ripened banana or apple) and eat it when you get a hankering for something sweet. That might help. Fruit juice is a bad choice just like soda--just eat the fruit itself.

Still see lots of new HD6450's out there for sale on eBay. That's a cheap, basic solution. Several years old, but perfectly suitable for browsing.

Of course...seemed only fitting. :)

It probably would have just been easier to get a Goodwill sign and put it on my barn, but I'm not zoned for that. :)

Well...if it makes you feel any better, when I divorced my wife in 2010, she left behind her hoard of Goodwill purchases. Took 4 pickups by an 18 foot box truck to get rid of it all. She managed to fill a 30x25 foot barn about 8 feet high with stuff. I think that makes you an amateur. :)

Re: Laptops with graphics power on a budget?

You are not going to find a new laptop with dedicated graphics for less than $500. Maybe a refurb. Cheapest new laptop you can get with dedicated graphics would be the few that are out there with the 940MX GPU. Those are slightly higher than $500. If your budget is less than $500, you will have to s...

I would go with IEM's too. The Panasonic 120 model of IEM's that are about $10 are actually a fine place to start. Yes, $10 can get you a decent start. Buy two pairs if you feel like spending more.

I would just buy a fanless laptop or fanless NUC-like and feed it to a USB to SPDIF adapter. I don't think you'll ever be able to build a completely silent PC, unless it is in an enclosure or far away from where you are. Could be very frustrating to attempt to completely silence a rig of that horsep...

From that list of games, it doesn't sound like she needs a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. You can just focus on finding one with the best display. laptopmag and notebookcheck and notebookreview generally do a good job of pointing out which laptops have quality displays.

I thought VII was a fun movie. You can probably nitpick it to death, but you can do that to all of the Star Wars movies. VII takes you on a nice emotional roller coaster ride, just like IV did when I went to see it in '77 when I was 10.

I wouldn't expect it to give you any issues with your current setup, as long as you don't hope to feed it any content that is higher than 1080p. You should do a little research on your GPU. If it can output 4k resolutions, then you might be able to display 4k content you downloaded from the Internetz.

All the non-wagon Golfs have the same interior dimensions regardless of the trim line. The differences lie in the engines, suspensions, interior materials, etc. I haven't seen the wagon in person but I know that it's only available in the TDI trim, which means you have to deal with the nuances of di...

I'm confused about which Golf you test drove. What is a Golf TSI? Did you mean TDI? There's a whole range of Golf models that might interest you. There's the basic Golf, the Golf GTI (sporty), the Golf R (really sporty), and the Golf TDI (diesel, which I think you drove). They also make a wagon vers...
