Re: New video card itch

So here I am with the dilemma get the 7870 for $150, or hold off 4-5 months and see if I can snag a Radeon 280 for sub $200, they are about $215 now. (Forgot to mention I game at 1920x1200, currently playing D3 and Civ 5 mostly.) D3 is a fairly light game for a 5870, getting 100 fps+ http://gamegpu...

Re: AMD still a good choice?

Case in point, ASUS's shiny new Ares II getting rolled in Arkham City, Assassin's Creed, Skyrim and WoW (see: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/ARES_II/). These games are very popular, and they've been out for months, if not years. Nvidia will usually have SLI support right from the word go, ...

Re: AMD still a good choice?

I would go with XFX HD7870. You get lifetime warranty and free Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider. If you don't want those games, you can sell the coupon, further dropping down the price of the card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150605 Alternatively, Sapphire HD7950 V2 (92...

Re: FX-8350 $220

It seems pointless to me to spend extra $ for the FX8350 over the FX8320. You can get FX8350 for $199.99 at Tiger Direct http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4904561&CatId=7339 or FX8320 for $174.99 at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FX-Series-Eight-Core-Pr...

Re: Nvidia GTX 660 TI vs Radeon HD 7950

HD 7950 hands down - it's faster out of the box, with overclocking to 1100mhz, it matches a GTX680, it has more VRAM for mods, it performs much better with MSAA and doesn't fall apart in modded games like Skyrim+ENB or should you want to use MSAA. Recent reviews with latest drivers (Cats 12.11 betas...

Re: Upgrading graphics to get another 1-2 years

Your CPU is still plenty fast if you overclock it to 3.4-3.8ghz. Q9550s are notorious for being excellent overclockers. Not only that, but your 750 motherboard has asynchronous CPU FSB: RAM overclocking which means you won't be constrained by DDR2-800 when you start overclocking. Your CPU has a mult...
