Re: Everything look kosher with this build?

GeForce GTX1060 6GB or Radeon RX 580 8GB seems like a reasonably performing option for 75Hz 1080p. It is frustrating that the crazy miners have driven prices up as much as they have. Radeon RX Vega 56 has been restocked, but it is available only in bundles . The $500 bundle includes Wolfenstein II:...

Re: Vega is [also] overpriced because AMD has manufacturing problems

3dfx killed 3Dfx. They bought out a board partner in an attempt to become vertically integrated. That unnecessary distraction quickly put them 1-2 generations behind NVidia and ate away a chunk of balance sheet even while their other former, now-aggravated board partners began competing to release ...

Don't use 4x 4 GiB DIMMs with your Kaby Lake processor. You'd do better with 2x 8 GiB, instead.

It's an open tube with an EF-M bayonet mount and an EF/EF-S socket, some electronics for communication and a detachable tripod adapter. It extends the mirrorless camera body so that the APS-C size sensor is the same distance from the EF/EF-S mounting point as it is on a DSLR camera (like the EOS 80...

Re: Looking for Prosumer mirrorless

Neither Sony nor Canon have properly expanded the asp-c lens selection. I would argue that Canon has expanded their selection of lenses for cameras with APS-C size sensors far too much . The large number of lenses with overlapping capabilities creates a sea of confusion. Canon could eliminate seven...

Re: Looking for Prosumer mirrorless

I'm not arguing that you should select Canon over Fuji or Sony. Any of these brands is likely to work well for you. I am familiar with how to find prices and reviews for Canon products, since I own a Canon DSLR and lenses, so I'll provide you some links and information. If you do buy Canon, the 10-2...

The (surprisingly expensive at $200 new or $128 refurbished , IMO) Canon Mount Adapter EF EOS-M has no glass to affect image quality. Canon has seven EF-M lens models ( 11-22 , 15-45 , 18-55 , 18-150 , 55-200 , 22 and 28 macro ) plus the EF-EOS M Adapter , which allows any of the more than 120,000,000 Canon EF, EF-S, TS-E and MP-E lenses plus millions of EF and EF-S compatible third party lenses sold in the past thirty years to fu...

Re: QLED

The strange part about the brightness is that you don't lose any contrast (and it's a curved VA panel so no IPS glow and I didn't have any backlight bleed on my unit). The dynamic range is great when the monitor is at the same elevation as my eyes. After decades of using UltraSharp IPS displays tha...

Re: New drive suggestions?

I hate the company because Seagate obfuscates which of their drive models have the inferior SMR technology and which will actually work for common applications. If the fact that certain models or revisions in a series of drives use SMR technology were available in the marketing materials for that dr...

Re: New drive suggestions?

I'll mention that TiVo Bolt is one of the many applications for which Seagate's problem-plagued SMR drives are totally unusable. After several hours or a few days on-line, the Seagate drive corrupts the file system and makes the DVR completely unusable. I'll be sticking to other brands of driv...

The Tech Report's System Guide has just been updated. There's a lot of great information in there. Canon is going to have infinitely more lens selections, but their mirrorless cameras aren't the best. The EOS M6 isn't awful by any means. The EOS M5 is actually Canon's best mirrorless camera. Don't ask about the product numbering scheme. Review: https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/C...

The SeaSonic G series has their S 2 FC fan control, which runs the power supply's fan at nearly-silent (22 dB) low speed at less than roughly one-half load. The SeaSonic Focus Plus series has S 3 FC fan control, which can be toggled to switch the power supply's fan completely off for totally silent ...

Re: Everything look kosher with this build?

I went with a full ATX mostly because of the room that an ATX tower affords. My last build was a mini-ITX affair inside a Silverstone RVZ01 and it was a giant pain not just to build but to clean. I'm finding it very easy to clean the magnetically-attached nylon filter screens on the outside of the ...

Re: College Football 2017

I believe that college football is more entertaining than NFL professional football because there is more variation in the capabilities of the players and in the coaching styles. The young players are more likely to be affected by emotion. In the NFL, all of the players are good (many are great) and...

Monitors tend to outlast GPUs, so I fully agree with CScottG and is why I always spend more on the monitor. Got a Dell 2407 in 2006. It seems pretty rare to have a monitor go out before five years, let alone three. You may have a few more years left. My UltraSharp 2000FP failed at 16 years. Somethi...
