Re: Utiliy to make clone disk

Macrium Reflect is the easiest-to-use disk cloning tool. Back when The Tech Report was an actual technology website, you could get discounts for the full version of Reflect with your TR membership. However, the trial version is free for occasional home use and will do everything that you want. https...

Re: buying pc for gaming

A Radeon RX 6600XT 8GB graphics card may be available for less than the price of the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB. The Radeon would provide slightly better gaming performance except for ray-tracing, where the GeForce has a significant advantage. https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007709%204131%208000%204814%...

The translucent fan blades should glow with color when viewed from either side. Orientation may matter more for fans with halo lights on the frame rather than ones that illuminate the blades.

The Oroville Dam's concrete spillway has broken about 2/3 of the way down, apparently due to poor maintenance.  The erosion is happening far enough down that it doesn't threaten the dam, but it's sure putting a lot of mud into the Thermolito basin and Feather river in this video.  Additional erosio...

Ryzen 5 5600X, 3600 or Core i5-11400. Surprisingly enough, it's Intel that has the best value at the cheap end and AMD that dominates performance at the high end.

Re: How to replace a dying secondary drive?

Install new SSD. Use the free trial of Macrium Reflect to clone the old drive onto the new SSD. Use Windows Disk Management to re-size the partition to use all of the space on the new SSD. Remove the old drive. Re-assign the drive letter of the new drive to match the letter that the old one had. Done.

Re: Upgrading from 5-year-old components to ultrawide 1440p 144Hz

If you could get a Core i7-7700K for £60-ish, the 15% increase in boost frequency might add sufficient oomph to let you live with your existing motherboard for a while longer. The performance difference between the i5-6600K and the i7-7700K is probably just significant enough to be perceptible outsi...

Zen2 (e.g.: Ryzen 5 3600X) and Zen3 (e.g. Ryzen 5 5600X), when paired with a B550 or X570 motherboard, support PCIe 4.0. Current generations of graphics cards (Radeon RX 5000 or 6000 series or GeForce RTX 3000 series) also support PCIe 4.0, but the extra PCIe speed doesn’t do much for graphics. Howe...
