Honestly, if space and power aren't a huge concern, a giant (21" viewable) CRT with a flat Trinitron tube can be had for less than an LCD. No worries about refresh/ghosting, full bright and wonderful color, etc. I only want LCDs so that I can put them on hanging VESA mounts on a super-desk, and ther...

Well, as for budget, I'm in the range of 4-500$ right now with the monitors I'm looking at. Small/narrow bezels are key, as I very much use multimonitor setups for my work (CAD). I just wish there was a more objective way to rate LCDs, as from what I understand, measuring the light intensity, contra...

LCD Monitor purchase - how to get good info?

I'm in the market for two 19" LCD monitors for professional use. While I have watched DivX on them in the past, about the most motion I'm used to seeing is flash animations. On the other hand, my current setup is two Sony 19" Trinitrons, with wonderful color and brightness. So I'm in the market. I'v...

Good hosting company for <10$/month?

T-R Friends - I have a bunch of domains, and tiny little things I do with them. All minor things, with like a total usage of like 15MB/month traffic, and maybe some PHP, SQL, and that's about it. I used to be on Fuitadnet.com, but I'm looking to pick up a secondary host, for various other activities...

I'm in the State College area, and am interested - but horrible at remembering to check threads... So given that, I'm totally interested, but will never remember to check this thread again, and will thus totally miss out. Sadness.

Alrighty: Yes, SSH is default, and I already use that exclusively. (Actually, I've got my firewall ignoring anything nor originating from the 192.168. non-routable set. And I've got my other firewalled box up that I bounce from as a gateway. just for fun.) As for folding client, give me a day or two...

XMMS done. Thanks for telling me about just plain DL'ing the sources to get the mp3 function working as well.

Other apps? Anything at all? I'm trying to get a nice full list in before I go to the effort of finalizing a ghost disc, and I've got over 100GB to waste on my main disk alone.

Software for Linux?

I just got my first redhat (9) box up and running, and have been futzing with it. Got samba up, as well as zine (mp3 player), but am still way short on software. Redhat comes with some things, such as openoffice, but that's not what I'm missing. What I need are things like video players, cd rippers,...

I guess I'm just saddened that Intel's processor core pics are so much cooler looking than AMD's. All of AMDs are these sad - one color deals, while Intel's latest P4 core pic is nice and multicolored.

Bad AMD press dept.!

Site that has pictures of processor cores?

A while ago, I was posting in the comments about some energy/power scaling etc, and someone kindly pointed out to me that one of the images in a ppt presentation was mislabeled. Specifically, he pointed out that what was labeled a P4, was in fact a P2 (or somesuch). Regardless, he pointed me to a si...

Yes, I understand that whole "Run the 500k installer" thing, and also the "when it asks you what type of install you want, just pick 'DL only'". Unfortunately, as I'm running IE6 on my home machine, the stupid 500k installer thing runs, detects a newer version of IE, and quits, without ever asking m...

I've got a friend who needs a copy of Outlook express on a non-networked Win95 machine. So I figured I'd DL a copy of it, burn it, and give it to him. Except that MS's site won't let me actually DL the installer, as it detects I'm running IE6 after the first 500kB "gateway" thing downloads. If I cou...

I know that's possible, but then I have to worry about driver incompatibilities, not to mention getting ahold of x86 compiled versions of a lot of the software we run. (That's the big one. Some of that software is pretty expensive, and getting them to put it on my laptop will be hard enough, much le...

I'm a grad student, and our department uses all 200-Mhz 128MB RAM Ultra Sparc machines for their work. I'm interested in picking up something, personally, that's a bit more powerful than that (uniprocessor), and was even hoping I could find it in a notebook. As I've never followed Sun hardware befor...

I'd prefer that, actually. I feel that too many forums leads to too few posts in each to make it worthy of visiting often. I'm a big fan of only 3-4 forum topics early on, till readership gets up. I say compress everywhere you can.

Not me, I just picked up a new 3635, with 32MB of RAM and ROM, and am loving it. A heck of a lot cheaper than the 37XX series due to the 150$ compaq rebate, plus an included flash sleeve, and it was an easy choice. The only thing I need now is a copy of PPC 2K2 to put on the thing. (It's still runni...
