Re: Help me finalize my new build

Feature wise, I'm not picky. I can totally go with a cheaper motherboard. The only thing I want really, is longevity and stability with overclocking potential. This TUF model might be better with that (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HM6ZC9D), since they have a 5 year warranty. I dont care about RGB LE...

Help me finalize my new build

Hello everyone! I just put an order in for a new i5 9600k. I'm finally upgrading from a 2500k and an Asus z68 MB There's so many different motherboard models/chipsets and ram speeds/timings that I don't know what to get! Right now, I'm looking at an Asus Z390 MB (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HM3FMRB...

What's causing this odd behavior?

Hello everyone! So, this weekend I upgraded my video card (from an AMD HD7870 to a Nvidia gtx 1080). I used DDU to clear all drivers before I turned off my computer to do the change. I had to get different cables, since the old video card had mini-display port and the new one only has the large size...

Re: Another "Time for a new PSU?" thread

So..... this card is an inch longer than fits in my ol' Antec 300.... Time for a new case! Might as well just get a new power supply to go with it as well, since everything has to be transfered into a new case anyways.

Re: Another "Time for a new PSU?" thread

So... what if I upgraded to a 1080 instead of a 1070... PSU replacement or no? It's kind of freaky, knowing that *technically* both the 7870 and the 1080 require a 500w psu, when there's a huge performance difference for the same power usage!

Another "Time for a new PSU?" thread

Hi everyone... for the most part, I'm still using the PC that I build with the System Builder's Anonymous thread (older sandybridge build). While I'm working on saving up the funds for a rebuild, my video card is totally outdated now (AMD 7870) and am planning on upgrading to a 1070 sometime soonish...

Well... I did a clean installation of Windows and haven't been getting driver crashes anymore. Now.... I'm getting memory errors. I ran memtest86 for a couple minutes and had 42(!) errors.

Yes, I used the Driver Uninstaller to wipe my drivers and installed a version from a couple months ago, and the crashing continued.

Re: Is my VC dieing?

That's another idea I had. I also did an in-place upgrade from 8.1, so I could do a refresh on my OS. I do have a couple 3-4 year old 1tb HDDs, but my SSD is only 128gb and I can't replace any hardware at the moment.

Is my VC dieing?

Ok, so November 2013 I bought an MSI 7870 GHZ edition video card. It was a considerable upgrade from my 6850 at the time. Now, I'm getting Driver crashes and sometimes whole system crashes when I'm playing games (FO4), as well as sometimes when I'm just watching videos (youtube/twitch). I also set m...

Re: New Builder Needs Help!

http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Three-Hundred-Two-Gaming/dp/B006TVQTHW From what I can tell, it is improved :P They added an intake filter for the power supply. So the power supply pulls air directly from outside of the case. They upgraded to USB 3.0, instead of 2.0. 1 x 120 mm side exhaust fan behind ...

Re: new Sandybridge build

I'm not really worried about the TIM, it's just not as nice as arctic silver or the like. I had a weird win 7 install anyways, so I wasn't surprised when it didn't work. Now I have to get things backed uP and a proper win7 install once I get my sad on Friday.

Re: new Sandybridge build

I am leaning towards the asus P8Z68 V-LE. My subtotal is ~40 more than my budget, but I can live with that, quality parts and all. Last time I build a PC I budgeted 125 on my CPU and it lasted me this long, though I was always wanting to upgrade to something better. With the 2500K, i can do some rea...
