Re: Help me finalize my new build

so with this BIOS install, it always resets to default automatically. I have to go back in and set XMP and Overclocking settings (if i'm using it) whenever I change the BIOS.

Re: Help me finalize my new build

Flashed my BIOS back a version and now, no more temp spikes leading to crashes, and stable idling and idling in games with the built in GPU and only 1 stick of ram... going to attempt to add second chip and do the same tests. I think they either posted the wrong BIOS file, or something very strange ...

Re: Help me finalize my new build

Check for an updated BIOS? Maybe your RMA board came from old stock, and didn't have the latest version. Bad CPUs are a rare thing in my experience. They're usually either completely fine, or completely dead. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It'd be really strange for it to be the CPU. I'm also chec...

Re: Help me finalize my new build

It's been crashing off and on. I'd tweak something and the crashes would seem to go away for a week/month then come back again. It's never really been stable. I guess I'll RMA the Ram, and see what happens afterwards.

Re: New Forums/Websites For TR Gerbils

Well, one of the benefits of reddit (in my mind) is that it could be whatever we gerbils build... but it'd be limited to just us contributing, and we'd all be contributing to one forum instead of spread out across topics. One of the other sites, we'd join there and contribute among the masses or sta...

Re: Help me finalize my new build

So, new RAM came in last night and passed 8 passes of memtest86 full test suite. :) Hope that partially solves my problems. I'll have time tonight to run some prime95 to further stress test.

Memtest86 full suite 4 pass tests. 1 error. I'm running more tests, to see if there's any repeatable errors.

Re: Help me finalize my new build

Or just check for defective RAM. ... Err... isn't that the point of running memtest? Technically to check and see if memory and/or motherboard/memory controller are at fault. Something must be faulty, right now, i can't overclock my cpu at all... I just set the cpu to 4500, from default 4300, and g...

Re: Help me finalize my new build

Thanks I'll take a look at that.

I've been looking at the Minidump files, and found this... Not sure what this means. I've read it's a bad Intel CPU Driver install?

Re: Help me finalize my new build

reseated my gpu and now the fan speeds are being shown in monitoring software, also not spinning up to 100% now.

I have a spare flash drive at work, going to bring it home and load up memtest on it and test my memory

Re: Help me finalize my new build

so far today, only 1 BSOD and it was when we weren't home, came home to the BSOD. Just played AC Odyssey for ~45 minutes without issues (can play on Ultra High 1080p and average 60fps on the benchmark). I noticed that none of my monitoring software is detecting the GPU fans, and they are spinning co...

Re: Help me finalize my new build

So... First shot with reinstalling Windows, got that odd clock error. Restarted and reset bios. Tried again and it worked, for about an hour and a half and i got another machine check exception. Not sure what to do, I'm guessing something is bad, but what?

Going to back everything up and try a fresh windows installation, that could be the culprit, safe mode seems stable.

Re: Help me finalize my new build

Everything is installed! I got into windows, driver updates happened. (Need to reactivate windows 10 but whatever.)

And now... BSODs machine check exception errors, and that's with the ram not set XMP. If I try to overclock, I get clock watchdog timeout BSODs. :(

Re: Help me finalize my new build

Feature wise, I'm not picky. I can totally go with a cheaper motherboard. The only thing I want really, is longevity and stability with overclocking potential. This TUF model might be better with that (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HM6ZC9D), since they have a 5 year warranty. I dont care about RGB LE...

What's causing this odd behavior?

Hello everyone! So, this weekend I upgraded my video card (from an AMD HD7870 to a Nvidia gtx 1080). I used DDU to clear all drivers before I turned off my computer to do the change. I had to get different cables, since the old video card had mini-display port and the new one only has the large size...

Re: Another "Time for a new PSU?" thread

So..... this card is an inch longer than fits in my ol' Antec 300.... Time for a new case! Might as well just get a new power supply to go with it as well, since everything has to be transfered into a new case anyways.
