Re: Chinese Android phones

I stay away from cheap Chinese phones because they generally are missing bands needed in the USA, and they usually don't get software updates. As far as spying, I am more worried about Google/Apple knowing everything about me, than the various gov agencies. Unfortunately, we have no choice there, as...

Re: Help Picking New Router

I recently pickedup a TP-Link Archer AC5400 for $160 on sale, and it works great with my 1gb docsis 3.1 connection. I'm getting better wifi speeds with it than the other routers I tried. I also like that it has built in Trend Micro anti-malware protection. Gives me an other layer of protection witho...

Re: What's the last piece of tech you regret buying?

About a year ago I replaced a perfectly fine 1080p TV with a 4k tv.  Even with the little 4k content available, I see little to no difference in picture quality.  Granted, I do not have the greatest eye site, but it seems really hard to tell the difference between 1080p and 4k.

I have Comcasts docsis 3.1 plan, so I have a Netgear 8000 from them.  But I almost bought a TP-Link AC3150 yesterday when Amazon had it for $139.  (copy/paste messed up my font and I am too lazy to figure out how to fix it ATM)

Re: AMD Radeon RX 480= 980 GTX in 3D Mark 11

I had hoped for better efficiency for Polaris, but still a solid card. I don't like some of Nvidias business practices(like the Gamewarks/tesselation crap), and the 1080/1070 are way more expensive than I need, so I was pulling for AMD here.

Re: AMD Radeon RX 480= 980 GTX in 3D Mark 11

The 470 has 5 TFLOPS of compute performance. Based on the 470 benchmarks shown on that page I'm not sure I would want to drop below what the 470 offers at 1080p. I agree, for those that dont care/want 4k or VR, the 470 appears to be THE card to get. But say you have a Dell/HP desktop, with limited ...

Re: AMD Radeon RX 480= 980 GTX in 3D Mark 11

The RX 460 is going to make some fairly decent gaming at 1080p available in situations where it wasn't possible before. According to AMD it is the 470 that is going to deliver 1080p gaming. The 460 is only good enough for "E-Sports Gaming". If the 460 is really 2TFLOPS, it should be prett...

Re: I just watched the Polaris "Update" Live

This was a flawed demo. A vast majority of users will not run crossfire. If they have to cherry pick the one game that AMD excels most at, and then CF the cards, that does raise some concerns. I'd much rather see how one card does. I'm also a bit concerned about what appears to be a vast TDP/perform...

Re: I just watched the Polaris "Update" Live

I am rooting for AMD, and their price points are more aligned with what I would pay for hardware, but I have to say that presentation wasn't that great. Partly due to the crowd looking dead.

Still, $200 for that card seems like a steal. Interested to see some benchmarks.

Re: Skull Canyon NUC, who is it for?

Iris pro is very hard to justify both in terms of cost and suitability for purpose. About the only advantage it has is that it is extremely power efficient - making it useful for battery-powered devices and thermally-limited scenarios (such as fully-sealed, 100% dustproof PCs in industry) that stil...

I also regret the move I made to rechargeable batteries a few years back. I feel like I am constantly having to charge them, as they don't seem to last nearly as long as regular ones. The low self-discharge batteries are a bit better, but in hindsight I wish I didn't go this route.

You guys may find this guys take interesting. Argues AMD is gaining the mass gaming market, leaving Nvidia with only the super high-end, which is a tiny market share.

Doesn't Carrizo support dual-channel memory? Won't there be a big performance boost if you add 1 stick?
