Re: Desktop environments suck

If I have to pull in extra code to get configurability that basic, there's a problem. Even Windows has more built-in configurability than Gnome, and every other Linux DE I've used isn't even comparable (including Cinnamon). The closest other example I can think of is Firefox extensions. Sure, you c...

Re: Desktop environments suck

I happen to like GNOME with a few indispensable extensions added like Dash to Dock and others. GNOME, if you use extensions, is very configurable. You can even make it look like Windows 10 with the Dash to Panel extension (a fork of ZorinOS Taskbar which is a fork of Dash to Dock). https://extension...

My answer is probably too late but for anyone with the same problem, boot in recovery and reformat the SD card partition. See if that helps.

Closed Microsoft format works better in Microsoft software. Why is anyone surprised here?
If Google Docs or any other software opens your Powerpoints or Excel files it's only because they reverse engineered the closed format.

A bit late with a response, but turned out my vhosts.conf-file was missing. So I made one manually and stuff started to work. :o

Local Apache

I want to run a local apache on a debian server. All is fine if I type the address on the server itself, but from another computer on the LAN I get a Not Found error for the domain. I've put it in my hosts file but doesn't seem to help. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I have a enabled the site in apa...

What kind of games do you plan to play on your PC, and how important are those games to be able to play on PC, verses a console system or something? Do you plan tend to keep your game titles updated? You're probably right. I don't play top of the line games, most of them are a few years old. So a 5...

Re: Crosshair Formula IV computer

Well, I'd say 4 GB RAM is enough for now, since RAM is a drop-in upgrade, right? Yeah, exactly my thought. As for the 1090T, there sure isn't anything wrong with it, although, are you sure you wouldn't be better served in the long run with something like the i7-875K? I'm no Intel fan, but that chip...

Not heavy duty Photoshop work, just the regular photo-editing and coding. I usually have a photo-editor, and IDE and a browser open for work and some other small apps. I tend to build my computers 'future-proof' because they have to last a long time. Usually it's a bit overkill for what I need but I...

How important is high graphics to you? The Radeon HD 5750 Go! Green is fanless-completely passively cooled by a giant heat sink, and supposedly cooler (and cooler on your system) as well as requiring less power then the regular 5750. I was planning to get a 5850 right now, the full specs are in thi...

Coolermaster V8 or Corsair H50?

Trying to build an AMD machine with a Phenom X6 (AM3) CPU and 890FX chipset but not sure what cooler to use. I'm doubting between a Coolermaster V8 or Corsair H50. But if someone has a better suggestion, go ahead.

On a related note, what kind of memory for the machine do you recommend?

There's some good nettops on the market with ion but with ion2 around the corner I'm wondering if I should buy an HTPC with the ion chipset now or wait for ion2 to be released.

Or does anyone know a good ion2 nettop, available today?

Ever seen a beer called Wittekerke? One of the wimpiest of beers I've ever had, and what minuscule bit of flavor there was reminded me vaguely of Old English. Dude at the store claimed it won a Gold Medal at the San Francisco Beer Championship (or some stupid tasting event) and I replied, "Tha...

Reformat and install Linux. They'll never bother you again.

Otherwise, just run an antivirus. If that fails reinstall completely.

If it's FAT32, split up the archive in 4 GB pieces. If that's impossible with NT backup use another program, I can recommend Cobian Backup.

If the partition is NTFS, you have another problem :-)
