Ampere keynote on May 14
(FYI, that won't be RTX 3000)

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

^ Yeah!
I thought it was interesting too that they're taking in roughly 6TB/hr of completed computations.

Seems GPU WUs are still pretty scarce, but my CPU seems to get WUs pretty consistently. I'm guessing the CPU WUs are easier to program out?

Re: Radeon RX Gamma rumors and news

I'm pretty excited about this. But it will probably cost $1,100.....

And 2.6GHz?!?!

Re: Help Fixing FM Tuner Board

Gonna call this one a success! Jumper wire worked. Picks up full FM range.

I've probably used up all my repair luck for the foreseeable future having done this AND successfully baking my TV motherboard earlier this week...

Re: Help Fixing FM Tuner Board

I'm just kinda sick of listening to the local rap station. That's not really my genre of choice in the first place. Before our recent move across town, I could get a good hard rock station which I enjoy. I'll give the jumper wire a shot today. Just wanted someone more knowledgeable to confirm my ass...

Re: Help Fixing FM Tuner Board

The stereo works perfectly except for the lack of ability to detect stations above 95MHz. I've also done a cursory inspection for other signs of shorts or damaged/bulged components and haven't found any yet. Let's just assume this was the only casualty. It looks like the board lead between the anten...

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

Seems like there's a massive problem with points reporting. I completed a 59k point WU yesterday at 8PM and it's not even showing up. And that's assuming I was the only one to complete a WU in that 3 hour timeframe. Not that it matters.....but it's fun to get points.

Help Fixing FM Tuner Board

I've had this JVC MX GT700 stereo for 16+ years. Still enjoying it. A long while ago, it stopped receiving any FM stations >95MHz. Today, I finally cracked it open to discover my suspicion is true. The FM antenna jack shorted out: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/QcwyCZWLV0q6QbogtqiKssNcy5iVGPjjWZe...

Well, that escalated quickly.
F@H just broke the exaFLOP barrier. Now larger than the top 100 supercomputers in the world combined.

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

I hate to jinx it, but I'm on my 4th consecutive WU. Hopefully the WUs continue to be sent out. If anyone has been discouraged by the lack of WUs, maybe give it another go.

Stay vigilant everyone. We all want points, but running Stanford out of WUs is the real good deed here. And that's not just limited to their COVID19 research!

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

Yeah, I've sat for 5 hours twice already waiting for a WU.
I guess that means there's an overabundance of people folding. I know Nvidia and Tomshardware have announced the F@H efforts.

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

Glad to have you!

It's been naturally on decline for some years. Of course the state of TR hasn't helped much, but we don't have to discuss that here. What's changed a lot is the computational power of modern hardware though. Orders of magnitue. Nowadays, a $300 GPU gets you 1M PPD.

Re: Coronavirus COVID-19 precautionary measures?

I found it amusing that public gatherings are being discouraged, and yet, I walked into the grocery store to get a bag of coffee and it was like Black Friday in there. People lined up 15 deep on each register, including the self serve ones....(which are debit only, so they're ALL touching the numpad...

TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

Hi everyone. I suspected this may materialize eventually, but F@H has released COVID-19 projects. I think this is as good of a time as any to wake up frankie! If you're new to F@H, have a look at this thread. To have your points count toward TRFrankenbot, you'll need the passkey. Simply post that yo...

Re: Radeon RX 5600 XT - Why would you buy one?

The MSI Evoke 5700 is $295 after promo code and MIR right now. Certainly not the best cooler by any means, but that's treading awful close to 5600XT prices.

Sorry!
Yes, the light works. Very happy with the outcome.

I was going to post a pic of the light pattern, but unfortunately I haven't been able to use it in the dark yet. Keeps snowing overnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Re: LED Light for Snowblower

The flow was good on all 4 terminals. In fact I had to remove the fuse wire from the AC-in terminal and it was a PITA! When I said "dumbell shape" that was more referring to the amount of solder I used. I don't trust JUST good contact with solid metal pieces, so I flowed a LOT of solder in...

Re: LED Light for Snowblower

Thanks for the tip. I did check all the solder joints, and they're all good. That picture angle certainly makes them look like cold joints. I melted quite a bit of solder into those terminals to form a dumbbell around the actual peg to keep things secure (hopefully). The fuse holder is tighter than ...

Re: LED Light for Snowblower

Update: Shipping (from China) and the holidays delayed progress, but I'm done with the unit. Will be installing it later this afternoon. Pretty happy with how this turned out. The fitment inside the box is perfect (the converter and rectifier are very snug against the sidewalls). Will have some inst...

Doh! Forgot to finish the loop. Strator - Switch - Fuse - Rectifier - Capacitor(+) - DCDC Coverter - Light - DCDC Converter - Capacitor (-) - Rectifier - Ground. A picture is worth a thousand words: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7mb44qM17N5FZ6gjf9l6eGS4Z5ugnOBSX1vWl2vx3Sj8yEYVsnvTfXbXWlXHLz-qyQ-...

Re: LED Light for Snowblower

So ground the "In -" terminal on the converter? Then the "Out -" terminal would be the negative wire from the light?
(that's what I figured)

Final wiring diagram will be:
Strator - Switch - Fuse - Rectifier - Capacitor - DCDC Coverter - Light - DCDC Converter - Ground.

Re: LED Light for Snowblower

Just got my last component (KBPC5010 bridge rectifier for $0.80 total from China.... just shipping must cost more than that, right?). Too cold to install until this weekend. Then I'll post a completion photo/write-up. Since there's no negative from the snowblower, do I hook the "in -" from...

Re: i7-3770 stuck at 4.1GHz

I got it for $50. I was already looking for a 2nd or 3rd gen i5 to upgrade my grandma's Pentium G620. The cheapest i5 I could find was an i5-3330 for $20. So instead I kept the $50 i7-3770 and gave grams my i5-3570K. I essentially upgraded for $30. Ought to keep me rocking till next fall.

Re: i7-3770 stuck at 4.1GHz

Nah, the guy literally took it off an HP mobo in front of me because I told him I didn't need the mobo and he could keep it to put his i5-3300 into for another sale. I found this thread. Apparently it's +4 to EACH per-core turbo multiplier. So my hopes of hitting 4.3GHz all-core would appear to be d...

i7-3770 stuck at 4.1GHz

I (literally) just got an i7-3770. Now, ending with Ivy Bridge, non-K CPUs could have their multipliers increased by 4 over stock when on a Z-series board which would mean I ought to be able to get this puppy to 4.3GHz (with enough voltage of course). I've got it on my AsRock Z77 Pro4-M, and I set t...

Re: Ryzen 3xxx or Intel 10th?

AMD and Intel have unlocked almost all of the untapped overclocking potential of their consumer CPUs and have made it available to everyone who installs good cooling in their systems. What I'm saying though, is that every CPU basically comes factory OC'd these days. How's that going to turn out for...
