Re: Something's different...

It's both sad and amusing that few old geezers still believe this site will publish anything interesting anymore. Anyway, for people who just want to read hardware news - there is always Techpowerup which has similar format to old TechReport and has very active comments for articles and forums. Ther...

Are has a nice write up. Any thoughts? https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/06/guidemaster-the-best-dash-cams-to-guard-your-every-drive/ Thoughts: worthless affiliate link clickbait. They just advertise whatever will be profitable to them through clicks. Which is not surprising for Ars. Anyone who ...

Re: Something's different...

I am sure the forum and comments can be easily linked, for example the way TechPowerUp did it. But why bother with this? Tech Report has no unique content anymore (other than the way video cards benchmarked, and even those tests are too late to be relevant and do not use big enough variety of games)...

So, while we're still all here... can anyone help out and let me know what hardware sites are still left/good? Has Anandtech won? Well, technically it's a cellphone site, but you know what I mean. I'm trying to think of any site other than TR that I regularly visit... HotHardware once in a while? W...

Re: Something's different...

Kind of a sad commentary on the literacy of the average bear, but here we are stuck in the middle with new owners. Perhaps they will try this two prong venture instead of a click bait site which will likely be dismissed as a waste of time? You're a very naive person. Do you honestly believe they wo...

Re: Something's different...

From a business standpoint, it sure is. Is it? I would like to see a proper comparison of a site which has same exact content on the site itself and on YouTube. And see how much traffic both would generate, as well as Ad revenue. I see plenty of sites which still post news about hardware on their w...

Yes, I know GN makes most money on YouTube, that's what they chose instead of doing stuff on website. It does not mean YouTube is a better way - many people still prefer to read reviews in text form and the monetization of YouTube videos is decreasing, many YouTubers have complained about that. You understand why WordPress was selected, though? The new owners do not want this site to be a review site or social site, they want it to be a blog with occasional tech posts by guests. In another thread someone mentioned ReadWrite blog. Take a look at it, this is what TechReport will become. You...

Re: Something's different...

It's just sad that TR has lost faith in the idea that quality content can still sell. This ideology loss is in fact the most disappointing thing about the handover. It wasn't selling. At least, not well enough to keep the lights on. That's why the site got sold. Think about it - nVidia is alr...

Re: Do/did you reapply thermal paste in laptops/notebooks?

For me that would be reason to avoid a model. ^^This. If it runs hot enough that you should repaste it on delivery, it's a flawed design / implementation. The solution isn't to repaste it, the solution is to avoid that model like the plague. You understand that it would mean avoiding almost every m...

Re: TR Redesign: bugs - features - tips

I always use same info on all sites - it is convenient and I do not use my real information so I do not mind if anyone will use it for any purpose ;-) I think cross-linking your posts on different sites is a bad idea (unless you explicitly want to do it). Also in general I dislike all these meta-se...

@JohnC, I think the problem lies on the target demographic. I am all up to address better thermal paste benefits in laptops (cfr. I am not sure why you wanted to ask this from a dozen of remaining active users rather than posting this poll at a proper place like Reddit, but whatever floats your boat ;-) Just wanted to add that repasting is A MUST on many new models if you want to get maximum performance with minimum fan noise ...

Two possibilities: 1) nobody (it was a blind copy paste); or 2) the new owners and/or editor. Neither choice bodes particularly well... What that garbage site won't tell you is the Samsung OLED display that is used on Gigabyte Aero 15, Razer Blade, Dell XPS, Dell G7, Alienware m15 and some Clevo-based laptops is prone to banding. You can find this information from actual users on Reddit, people who did not get a review sample handpi...

Sorry to see the site decline so far. Mostly sad for us enthusiasts though who basically have nowhere left to go to get our tech news and in-depth analysis, save for a couple youtube channels like Digital Foundry and Gamers Nexus. I guess it's just the end of an era. The SEO blog posts dominating t...

If this is an actual question - I like to read TechPowerUp. They are better than TechSpot and they have pretty knowledgeable people posting in forums and comments and they have the authors of some very famous software utilities.
