Migrating from Samba DC to Windows DC

Hello, No idea if this is the right forum to post in, but I have been given the task of integrating a new Windows Infrastructure into what was essentially a budget domain build. The research lab currently has a Raspberry Pi running Samba DC 4.1.7. The Pi is acting as DC, DNS, and DHCP. The lab has r...

Re: FreeNAS on Mac Pro 5,1 (mid-2012)

Unless I am missing the something, I don't believe there is a way to change Mac hardware to boot via BIOS instead of EFI, which seemed to have been the fix for that link.

Re: iMac issues with failed Boot Camp install

I think you are right, and I would love to do a full format/reinstall.  However, I can't seem to interact with either of the partitions (MacHDD or MacHDD2).

Even if I boot from the USB, I can't seem to delete or extend either of the partitions.

Re: iMac issues with failed Boot Camp install

I created a Sierra boot USB with DiskmakerX, booted to it, but had limited access to the BootCamp partition.  The only thing I was able to do was to erase it and repartition that as a Mac OS Journaled Extended partition.  I thought that this would make it available to merge back into my main HD.  Ho...

Re: iMac issues with failed Boot Camp install

I tried booting to the recovery partition and nuking the failed windows partition, but it wouldn't let me interact with it.  All buttons were grey.  I will try the USB boot and give it a go.

iMac issues with failed Boot Camp install

Howdy, I have a fairly nice iMac 27" circa 2014 with a 1 TB fusion drive.  While doing a standard Boot Camp install (via USB drive, I had already partitioned the drive 512 GB Mac, 512 GB Windows), it froze up during install.  It eventually restarted, but when it did, it told me I couldn't insta...

Give me the excuse I need  for some serious redesign of my current color scheme of Blue/Black. 4. You know you want to.... 5. Up till now, my builds ha...

Moving Windows from one HDD to a brand new SSD

Howdy, I recently came into possession of a brand spanking new 320 GB Intel SSD and would love to replace my aging HDD. Unfortunately I upgraded to Windows 10 recently and I have heard that replacing the drive requires the purchase of a new Windows 10 license as it doesn't handle hardware changes we...

Re: Advice on Low Profile CPU Cooler

Nothing really wrong with the stock Intel, I have just noticed that it has a bit of trouble keeping the CPU cool in that enclosure. It is also a lot louder than what I am looking for (this is sort of a HTPC).

Advice on Low Profile CPU Cooler

Hey all, I am looking for a bit of advice on a low-profile CPU cooler that will fit an Asus Z97I-Plus mobo (LGA 1150). The mb is installed in a Corsair Obsidian 250D. CPU Cooler has 3.7(ish) inches of room and my budget is (if at all possible) <$40. Running an Intel Core i5 4460. Thanks for any help!

Swapping SSDs

Hello, I have a friend who is doing a new build and wants to use his SSD from his old computer. I am curious, can you just throw the SSD into the new computer and not have to change anything? Or is there something in the relationship between software (os) and hardware that necessitates a complete wi...
