Re: Mechanical Keyboard decision help

I just got a rosewill rk9000v2 with Browns and I love it! I originally went back and forth between the k70 but the rosewill was on sale for $69 at newegg. Not sure if they're still on sale though. I originally wanted back lighting but the print on the caps are easily visible in the glow of my monito...

Re: The desktop PC "upgrade itch"

My main office/gaming PC has lasted me nearly 5 years, but this last month I went a bit crazy on upgrades. Most peripherals though. Asus pb258q, upgrade from a 21.5" tn panel Rosewill mechanical keyboard w/ brown switches, replaced broken Logitech wireless keyboard Audioengine D1 dac, because I...

Re: Swapping a GPU, drivers question

Regarding the drivers, I was just hoping to skip that step because without the drivers I hate navigating Windows in 800x600 resolution or whatever. But it's simple enough uninstall and reinstall. Regarding the batteries, one of my computers time is off and it seems like every other week I need sync ...

Swapping a GPU, drivers question

Hello, I have two computers, one has a gtx 960 and one has a gtx 970. This weekend I plan on swapping the gpus, if each system has the same drivers installed will I need to uninstall the drivers first or should I be able to swap the hardware and not worry about the drivers? Also, I plan on changing ...

Re: Upgrade advice please

Thanks guys, I really wanted to stay in the $200ish price range, I do only play at 1080p. I'm glad you guys confirmed that the different between pcie 2.0 and 3.0 aren't very noticeable. I'll likely go with a gtx960 or Radeon 380, whichever has the best deals after Christmas. Then maybe next year I'l...

Upgrade advice please

Hey all, My current system is in my signature. I'm thinking of upgrading my video card but I have some questions first. Since my motherboard doesn't have the newest pcie 3.0 slots, would I benefit much from getting a gtx 960 4gb or a Radeon 380? Originally I was planning on upgrading the whole syste...

Re: Laptop under $500 advice please

So after a few weeks of searching I've narrowed it down to a few options. One is http://support.hp.com/id-en/document/c04764670 HP pavilion 14-ab167us My next question, how do I wipe all the bloat ware and install an ssd? I mean I can probably figure out how to swap the hardware, but do these things...

Laptop under $500 advice please

I know this topic has been covered in the past, I searched the forums but didn't see anything that was recent or meets my exact needs so I figured I'd start another thread. I want to get a laptop for my daughter that can play games like minecraft and sims, YouTube and Netflix, and general internet s...

need a solution for PC audio

Hi guys, Recently my A/V receiver hooked up to my PC died. I'm not sure what happened exactly but I think it had something to do with being in direct sunlight for too long and it overheated. It won't turn on. Not a huge loss, it was an old 5.1 Denon and it was an eyesore. So now I'm looking for a re...

Re: Dumbest Comments from Non-Tech Types

I work in a retail setting and I'm known in the store as the computer guru, even though I have no training, just a computer enthusiast. We constantly have issues with our verifone pin pads and receipt printers, and one day I just couldn't get something to work so I called our technology help desk. T...

Re: Looking to build a new PC for HTPC/emulation/gaming

I think for what you want to do with your HTPC an i3 should be fine. Any idea on what type of case you want? I have the fractal design node 605, it looks awesome and was easy to build in...but things run really hot in there! I actually opted to take out my graphics card because the case was really h...

Re: Installing XBMC on a win 7 machine for dual boot

Ditto. And for what it's worth...windows media center might be another option for you. I built an HTPC in December with the hopes of using XBMC as my media center and I found it way too complicated. Specially if you're going to be using it to watch and record live tv. After days of trying to set up ...

Re: HTPC Build

Yeah, be careful and try it yourself. I don't think bent pins are even covered by warranty, though many retailers are too dumb to realise it's the bent pins causing the problem, and RMA them anyway. If your eyesight is good and your hands are steady, bending pins back is easy enough. I've never fai...

Re: Using my line in 1/8"jack questions

I definitely get delay when using my line-in on my PC. I tried playing music from iTunes and plugged guitar processor line out to my PC and had enough delay to where it was impossible to play along. Just try it and see what happens :)

Re: HTPC Build

Sounds like I'm too late, but most "failure to POST" with new hardware that I've seen on Socket 1155 and 1150 is often because it's very VERY easy to bend a pin in the motherboard socket. Oh boy....I put in a claim today for the RMA but hadn't shipped it back yet. Figured I'd take a look ...

Re: HTPC Build

Well, got all my components and ran into a few problems. I decided to make a few changes to my original build. Instead of going AMD I went with a haswell i5 that was on sale for $189 and a H87 mother board. I figured spending the extra $50 on the CPU and an extra $10 on the motherboard wouldnt be to...
