Re: Suggestions needed: New CPU

How much memory do you have? What kind of monitor? 8GB and just a 1080 @ 60 24 inch. and an old 1440x900 on the side (in portrait) for monitoring diagnostics. 6970 is more potent than people give it credit for Agreed. It is more than capable for my needs. Rarely is it pegged at max. Plus I don't mi...

Re: Suggestions needed: New CPU

Thanks. I've never noticed Lightroom use multiple cores. It only really taxes them during export processing. Scales well to 4 cores but not much past that. Usually I just start the processing and come back in an hour when it's all done. I would say go with the 4690K as well if you are not cash strap...

Suggestions needed: New CPU

So my Phenom II 955 finally died 6 months ago =( strapped for cash I replaced it with a G3285 on an Asus z97 paired with my 6970. With Skylake here my upgrade path is diminishing. Do I? A) Keep the G3258 OC'd to 4GHz and wait, B) Upgrade to an i5-4690K for $365 AUD c) Upgrade to an i5-5675c for $420...

Re: Wi-fi stumbler?

Wifi Analyzer on Android does everything inSSIDer 4 does, and it's free. Alternatively you can try airodump-ng on Kali linux in a vm but it doesn't play with all wifi cards. Not sure if it has ac support tho.

Re: Lightroom CC and graphics card

I had a similar problem, I had a 955 and a 6980 which was running OpenGL 4.something but under lightroom it was not detected properly. I think it may have been my integrated that LR was looking at not the GXF card. I've sinced "upgraded" to a G3258 and the 6980 is detected just fine now.

"hidden folder"

This one has me stumped. I have a HDD on a 'server' PC which is mapped to my main pc. The drive has a number of folders. Today one of the folders "My Pictures" was missing. (Lucky I have backups) I returned to "My Computer" and noticed that the drive is registered as 3/4 full, li...

Help with coding arduino

Hi, I am new to Ardunio and havent coded in 10 years, not really sure what I am doing and require some assistance. What I am trying to do is to have a program read a text file from an SD card, one line at a time, store that line as a variable. Then compare the text ( a time ) to a DS1307 RTC. When t...

Re: DSLRs

Have you looked at Olympus? The new omd is pretty good. Top end features in a $1500 body. Dials everywhere, fully customisable. Their 4/3ds system may not have the quality of a full frame SLR, but the ability to have high quality glass, that's at a decent price, and everything is smaller. It's easy ...

Re: Egalax touchscreen with precise puppy

Thanks,

Turns out to be just a calibration problem, and trying to using tools intended for different (evtouch or egalax) drivers.

Using evdev drivers and manual (modifying xorg.conf file with trial and error) calibration works sweet.

Now to figure out the 'right click'....

Re: Egalax touchscreen with precise puppy

So I've found that the module 'evtouch' is not loaded.
So I downloaded evtouch 0.8.8 which is in a tar.gz.
How do I install the module?

Re: Moving to an EVF - Anyone else done this?

I'm thinking of getting an Olympus OMD. It has an EVF that looked pretty slick in the store. I am amazed that the EVF packs 1.4 Megapixles into such a tiny space running at 120Hz. Makes me laugh that the big 3 inch screen on the back is only 0.6 Megapixles tho.

Re: Home Networking closet

1) How well ventilated will the closet need to be? An exhaust fan in the roof should be enough, it should suck the required air from under a closed door without too much difficulty. that keeps the goodies out of sight. 2) For wiring the house, the ethernet jacks are point to point right? Yes, I'd c...

Re: Robocopy help

I just use 'WinRoboCopy'. It's just a front end program. Select the options you want and hit run. Shows you the command/s it uses also so you can learn to do it by yourself.
Has scheduling and the ability to save as batch files too.

Sure beats having to remember all the commands.

Are A and B connected via crossover cable or are they both part of a larger network?

Re: Who would you bring?

I'm sure fitness would play a big part of survival, and despite the 'everyman for themselves' approach that seems to be favored, I think a team two is better than going solo.

Re: Ok, now I know why Windows 8 will be what it will be

Surely they can implement some kind of dual - voice and text - at the same time, sort of like SpokenLayer? Why read anything if you can hear it directly from the author? Might also help misinterpretation of sarcasm and tone.
