In the the same week the CDC also published about US suicide rates are up 30% since 1999. I think its an existential crisis thing, and more and more people for one reason or another are sadly running into it.

Re: Video card prices

I wish NVidia would get off the pot already... Today, Newegg has a GTX 1070ti for $419 with promo code and a $10 mail in rebate. That's the best price on a 1070ti I've ever seen! It's a new NV money strategy: Not announcing the next gen until the very last moment so desperate enough people will sti...

I'm just not sure how long Nadella will last if he keeps trying to give everything away for free. It's only for the fickle consumer segment where datamining user habits to death and shoving ads to their face is more profitable than selling them OS/software which they can pirate for free anyway. Tho...

I dunno man, most sub models are either obvious loss-leading operations which people will promptly drop in a dumpster after the perks disappear, or are too rarely used to justify one.

I cobbled a AM2 A64x2 4600+ 2.4GHz, 2x2GB DDR2-800, Evo 850 500GB, GTX 970, Win 7x64 setup last night. The nForce 2 mobos all had bad caps, so this is the oldest platform I can safely work with. General desktop performance is unsurprisingly, fine. 720p60 Youtube on Chrome was borderline watchable, d...

Video decoding used be a CPU killer, until everything has a built in HW decoder. Pre-Athlon XP era you have be to really careful which CPU and mobo to pick, especially for OCing since its the difference between +50% free performance versus none at all. Now I can barely get +8% performance out of my ...

From what I can see, kids these days don't even want toys anymore. They would rather want to play on a iPhone or watch Youtube on TV, and those are also cheaper and less clutter to deal with than toys from the parents POV.

Doesn't help that birth rates are falling like a rock all over the globe.

Samsung et al are price fixing now as it's the last chance they will be able to get away with it. Once China opens their product dumping floodgates for NAND like they did on li-ion batteries etc prices are going to stay low forever.

All the DRAM/NAND production is owned by South Korea/U.S/Japan companies, the only regulatory agency who gives a damn about the price fixing so far is from China, and the only nation who is hellbent in ramping up homegrown DRAM/NAND production, gasp, is also China. But like you say, of course it's a...

What's with the power boards in plasma TVs being so frequently under-engineered? Any way to beef-up some of the components most likely to go on one of your spare boards before it's needed? Plasma requires high voltage, and high voltage circuitry is trickier to get right. I suspect that with the dem...

Frankly, I'm not sure what's the logic of using a low profile cooler on a full size ATX board. He could just have got a much beefier Cryorig H7 for cheaper.

IMO you should keep them, their value only goes up from here when the retro PC guys shift their attention to the early 2010 systems.

I still have P3 1GHz/i815e, Xeon E5450/G41, i5 760/P55, ancient 6800GS/X1800XT/9800GT/HD5850/HD7950 lying around for kicks.
