Re: STAR WARS TIME! - Spoiler Lock Lifted

Sorry if I keep referencing videos but sometimes the language barrier keeps in the way and it is easier to link a video or an article. One simple question: How old were you on May 25, 1977? I happened to be 13 at the time. Just want to see which era of fan I'm reading, as it seems to be important f...

Re: End of an Era - Toys R Us

From what I can see, kids these days don't even want toys anymore. They would rather want to play on a iPhone or watch Youtube on TV, and those are also cheaper and less clutter to deal with than toys from the parents POV.

Doesn't help that birth rates are falling like a rock all over the globe.

I'll just stick to 3.5mm even if it needs an adapter. Charging and using a wireless headset is more work IMO, and since I only use IEMs that's also one less easily lost gadget to me.

AMD might as well stop selling consumer discrete cards and use all the Polaris/Vegas chips for themselves to mine with. It would be more profitable that way.

Re: Why I'm Suspect of RAM Prices

Samsung et al are price fixing now as it's the last chance they will be able to get away with it. Once China opens their product dumping floodgates for NAND like they did on li-ion batteries etc prices are going to stay low forever.

Re: Why I'm Suspect of RAM Prices

All the DRAM/NAND production is owned by South Korea/U.S/Japan companies, the only regulatory agency who gives a damn about the price fixing so far is from China, and the only nation who is hellbent in ramping up homegrown DRAM/NAND production, gasp, is also China. But like you say, of course it's a...

I always preferred LCD myself. Higher definition images - which I think had a lot to do with the amount of glass for the particular TV (..with the thick glass Plasmas being a real turn-off). I remember when sales were starting their decline for Plasma's around 2006, and I remember the best of both ...

Re: The Last Great Plasma!

What's with the power boards in plasma TVs being so frequently under-engineered? Any way to beef-up some of the components most likely to go on one of your spare boards before it's needed? Plasma requires high voltage, and high voltage circuitry is trickier to get right. I suspect that with the dem...

Frankly, I'm not sure what's the logic of using a low profile cooler on a full size ATX board. He could just have got a much beefier Cryorig H7 for cheaper.

IMO you should keep them, their value only goes up from here when the retro PC guys shift their attention to the early 2010 systems.

I still have P3 1GHz/i815e, Xeon E5450/G41, i5 760/P55, ancient 6800GS/X1800XT/9800GT/HD5850/HD7950 lying around for kicks.

They are entire swaths of professionals in many industries who can't get enough of these $3000 cards because they are an absolute steal for what they can do.

If returning to form means having a decent CPU offering against Intel while massively dropping the ball on the dGPUs and even more so on the HPC side, yeah.

Notice that black friday doesn't necessarily mean good prices. Unless you have a 1080p plasma, with the rock bottom prices of new TVs the old ones just ain't worth the trouble and money repairing. Even if you could replace bad caps the backlight is still a weak point in all these LCD TVs. And BTW, don't run the backlight at max all the time if you want your TV ...
