Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

I thought mine was defective as well, but lowered voltage and a good cooler was the solution. You experience instability when lowering voltages, I had some of that too, but partly it came from the extreme temps the cpu was dealing with. Now it is stable at a voltage it wasn't when reaching 100C. Hon...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

I am having same problem with my 8700. I have contacted Intel and they are investigating it. They asked me to run Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) to stress CPU and checked the highest package TDP during that. Mine is 117W. My motherboard is ASRock Z370M. Tried the Intel® Extreme Tuning U...

Re: As we go into the New Year...

Lost 8Kg in 2016, 9 in 2017 and intend to lose ca 9 more in 2018. Taking it really slow, but I don't have the willpower to starve myself.

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

New cooler installed yesterday, and it is so much better it is a little unreal. Msi Frozr isn't the best cooler out there, but it does manage 63-68C(78C max for a little while) even after working p95 for many hours, instead of the 100C i was getting with the Akasa Nero and stock cooler. I don't know...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

Checked now, the system info page that came up from msinfo32 says bios uefi. I think even my ancient sandy bridge system was running uefi.

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

Heretic: sorry I missed that, actually a nice little program. 85-87W at load and 9-12W at idle. I do find myself doubting the load number a little bit in my particular case thinking it may be even higher than this, though it does sound reasonable for a cpu that didn't lose the silicon lottery. Do we...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

thecoldanddarkone: The load is occt or p95 in place large ffts. The clock speed before it hits 100C and starts thottling just enough to not go beyond 100C is 4.3Ghz on all cores - which is correct for this cpu loaded on all cores. After that it goes down to 4.0-4.1 and a 1.11-1.14V core voltage. HER...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

I'm kinda curius about total system power usage myself, but that doesn't really tell me exactly how much of that is used by the cpu. Money is also low after buying these parts, buying presents and having to order a better cooler for this hot cpu and a new receiver for my speakers since the old one d...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

You were right, 1.15 was too low. Not p95 stable. Going through the loadline levels now to see where it becomes stable, stability testing takes a lot of time so... Tried just mousing over and typing, god in heaven am I embarrassed now  It actually worked. So used to double clicking and choosin...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

mcarson09: I never wanted to have this high core voltage, it is auto set by the bios. The challenge was finding a way to lower it with the limited settings you get with a non k cpu. Mentawl: Actually I don't have direct control over the voltage in that menu, but your post and picture did set me on t...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

Since it isn't a k processor i don't have access to that part of the bios. Just greyed out text. It isn't running a multi core enhancement anyway. Have never seen it running 4.6, sometimes 4.5 on light loads, but on heavely multithreaded loads it runs a max of 4.3, and that is correct for this proce...

Re: I7 8700 reaching 100C

Tried disabling xmp, clocking down the memory and using the older version of prime. Didn't make a difference. The motherboard doesn't ramp up voltage as much with prime, old or new(1.2V over time, 1.3V max) as with occt (1.3V over time, 1.41V max) but the same 100C is reached by both.

I7 8700 reaching 100C

A couple of days ago i put together my new computer. A MSI Z370-A Pro, 16GB of DDR4 2666 crucial ram, Samsung 960 EVO 500GB, and a non k I7 8700, a 65W processor. My old computer was a I5 4670k, a 84W processor cooled by a Akasa Nero 3, your run of the mill 12cm fan 4 heatpipes with direct base cont...

Re: Witcher Enjoyability

I tried Witcher 1 and gave up up on it quickly. Still loved number 2. Though the first 2 hours of playtime in nr2 is boring, the rest of the game is fantastic.
