Re: Free space on C: drive for Exchange

depending on version of exchange will determine how much free space is needed for the installation. For day to day operations, starting with Exchange 2003 (I believe, could be 2007) you need to have at least 5% on all drives connected to the server regardless if the drive has anything to do with exc...

Re: Desktop Boards vs Server Boards

basically all you need for this is an Intel S1200bts motherboard, an E3 1220 Xeon and some ECC memory and your set the on board raid (ESRT2) is better then RST/Matrix and they'll have room to grow. If its going to be used for server tasks and relied on as a server, use server parts.

Re: Thinking about bankruptcy

Before you tank your credit with bankruptcy, try and refinance what you can to save on interest and what not. I just finished repairing my credit to buy a house and it was a lot work for just a few corrections, i'd hate to see what a bankruptcy would do it.

Re: network backup in Win 7 HP

if there is a little bit of a budget on this build I'd recommend going with windows home server 2011 its $50 for the software and does automatic backups over the network. Plus it gives you a platform for centralized anti virus, file sharing, media streaming and secure remote web access. Its a great ...

Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 essentials will do automatic back ups and give you some room to grow. it might be overkill for right now but you'll save money in the long run when your company grows

I love how no one is defending AMD lol But in all seriousness Intel is the way to go, and if you don't plan on overclocking save/better invest your money and use a an Intel motherboard DH67series rock stable or if you want the gaming chipset intel DZ68series. i say use a real raid card instead of matrix (i mean rapid storage technology RST) onboard raid is crap. just get something simple like an LSI 9240 and you'll be a lot happier

i agree with everyone on this since its WHS there is no reason to block the internet from it. and if you don't want the remote access feature turned on do the following open the Dashboard > click Server Settings> Remote Access > click turn off if it says turn on then its already disabled. but if you...

Re: Intel vs AMD for a Linux learning box

well since it doesn't sound like you need high end graphics i'd say go with the i3 or i5 because performance power wise they are better. the main thing to look out for though is Linux doesn't play consistently well with Realtek Nics so make sure there is an intel LAN port on the board or buy an add ...

dual CPU systems are for sissies...Quad CPU systems only. LOL just kidding. intel and supermicro make some workstation boards that are dual cpus and are a little bit cheaper then the server boards.

Wow a lot of people like software raid. I'm not one of those people. As far as raid cards i suggest a LSI 9240 or if you can swing the extra 100 go with the 9260 they are true raid cards and work with windows, Freenas, and Openfiler. Also avoid Highpoint RocketRaid those cards are garbage. They are ...

Re: RAID0 not keeping up with FRAPS

what hard drive raid controller are you using? most on board controllers can't keep up with fast sustained writes. i'd say invest in an LSI 9260 raid card and get 4 WD RE4 drives. the enterprise level drives from seagate and western digital will do 80 to 140mbs in a single drive set up. Since you're...
