Not just vote with your wallet - send a simple email to said companies telling them why you chose not to buy their product. They might not clearly see the 'lost sale', which is harder to judge, but will see the email.

If you want actual earbuds that are decent-sounding and cheap enough to not worry about, I would recommend Venture Electronics Monk Plus. They don't have a fancy ear-holder thing, but won't seal near as much as those other ones look to either.

Re: Bottle-necking my aging beast

People underestimate the difference that multiple generations of compounding 5-10% performance increases can make. but yeah, as others have said, more investigation of whether the CPU is being fully loaded will help determine where the bottleneck lies. I may have missed it, but I assume you have an ...

I had an occasional black screen issue on my Nexus 4 after many, many large and small OS upgrades. Verdict on Samsung V-NAND (850 series) SSDs

So, Samsung's SSD reputation took a dive with the bugs in the 840 series, both TLC and MLC variants. I imagine that people scrutinized the 850 series very closely because of this. I know it took a while to come to light with the 840s, but has there been any problem found with the 850s (specifically ...

Yep, and if you look up "product segmentation" in the dictionary, "Intel" comes up. I'm still angry that ECC support is reserved for the Xeon line. But I can be angry all I want, because they won't have a reason to change that anytime soon. It wouldn't make me so mad if you didn...

Seasonic, ~450W. Done.

That's all well and good, but the point is they shouldn't be called USB 3.1 anything . They should be called USB 3.0 type C like every single previous USB speed/port type. They are adhering to the official name as documented by the USB-IF. If you have a problem with that then direct your concerns t...

A few things: 1) Amazon gives you a free copy of any CD you buy in streaming, downloadable mp3 in your Amazon Music Library. So what jbi sees them giving away has been going on for some years. 2) For people who do buy physical CDs, which you can't do from Google or Apple or other streaming services,...

Re: Please help! I can't stop buying games from Steam.

I used to buy a fair amount of games during Steam sales as well, but once I realized how many I have that have gone unplayed (and the number is bloated because of Humble Bundles, but those tend to be smaller/simpler games) I just stopped. I *might* buy a single game on sale once every few months if ...

I don't think this will be a problem for DIYers either. It might be a problem for laptop buyers who want to load Linux, but laptop makers who allow secure boot disabling should see a bit more sales. I think this is a move for more device-like embedded OS products and 'internet of thing' things. Also...

All I know is it's completely stupid because connector type has never had to be correlated with speed, but that seems to be the only reason for '3.1 gen 1' instead of '3.0'

Re: USB 3.1 Gen 1 vs USB 3.1 Gen 2

At first this seemed extremely stupid... but I kinda see the reasoning behind it now. Apple's USB-C port is not a USB 3.1 port. It's only a USB 3.0 port in the USB-C form-factor. The only way to differentiate between USB 3 and USB 3.1 speeds on physical USB-C ports is to use a different labeling sc...

You can do some research, but ebay+paypal fees are about 13%, then there's shipping. A GTX 980 will perform almost as well as perfect scaling GTX 770 SLI, which obviously doesn't quite happen. I say go for it, even if you have to throw in a few extra bucks, not having to use SLI is worth it.

There is a fair amount of space between $250 and $330 (960 4GB and 970), but the regular 960 might drop a bit, yeah. They could have a card at $40 intervals though: $210, $250, $290, $330.

Re: GeForce GTX 960s with 4GB memory being released

EVGA has US prices on their site now, and the 4GB version is going for +$40 over the 2GB version. If this is really going to be NV's mid-$200s card, it is a bit disappointing because there are only specific cases where the added VRAM makes a big difference.

4 core, 8GB RAM, 4GB VRAM isn't *that* bad as recommended specs. (Minimum should be a little lower). The install size part is pretty stupid though, especially when it stems from devs just not trying, or doing outirght dumb things that would take no additional effort like uncompressed audio (at least...

For an HTPC/gaming PC, the GTX 960 might be a better choice: Also, the GTX 960 has one exclusive new feature: full hardware support for decoding H.265 video. Hardware acceleration of H.265 decoding should make 4K video playback smoother and more power-efficient. Now, I normally might say 'just use t...

The G300s qualifies as a 'small' mouse; length - 115mm, and once you account for the excess width of the 'wings' it is on the thin side.

Re: GTX 960 with decent, QUIET blower

It sounds to me like the inflexible problem is cards that rise above the PCIe slot too much and prevent the case from being closed. From a quick browse at Newegg, there are a few non-blower cards that don't have this issue. They will shut down fans at low power draw (HTPC use like movies) and are se...
