Re: Child Proofing the digital world

My advice is simple: Limit your children to screen time that is a proven and trusted benefit to them (and by this I mean by your standards and your honest evaluation), and don't rationalize Disney clips, Paw Patrol or any other media you allow them to be exposed to. You're not going to eliminate it,...

Re: Apple Takes 104% of All Smartphone Profits in Q3

How can someone possibly take more than 100% of profits? I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation that somehow allows a very creative use of percentages in a financial context, but I don't see it right now. Here are some serious possibilities: - Plenty of people are willing to give mone...

Re: AMD wants to standardize the external GPU

Meh. It seems to me that for those who could/would afford this likely high-end technology, why not just own both a desktop gaming system and an ultrabook? It's difficult to imagine the compromises would be worth the value.

Re: Anyone else getting more aggressive Win10 u/g notificati

I have noticed the W10U/G NTFCTNS are getting more irritating. I also noticed that the "your Windows 7 is not activated" messages on my garage PC isn't as annoying anymore. It seems MS is far less aggressive about getting you to buy a legit Windows 7 than getting legit users to upgrade to ...

Re: W7 > W10 Upgrade... do you lose rights to the W7?

I didn't use Ccleaner on that particular system, no. Nice to be back to Windows 7, though.

Re: W7 > W10 Upgrade... do you lose rights to the W7?

It should also be noted that feature to revert back to Windows 7 is unreliable. Personally, I'm 0 for 1 attempt and the W10 install is only about 7 days old. Perusing the interweb indicates that, predictably, I'm not the only one with this problem. Windows 10 doesn't even have any option to troubles...

Re: W7 > W10 Upgrade... do you lose rights to the W7?

The way I understand it, the W10 activation is tied to your hardware, not the Windows 7 key, so you can still use your W7 key on a different or same computer after you upgrade. Practically speaking, I'm pretty sure you can upgrade more than one computer to Windows 10 with the same Windows 7 key in a...

Re: Are there any true Tech sites around?

Ars has become so political and commercial that I find it not worth the time and patience to filter thru the preach - it's all brown and green there with a little bit of color mixed in if you're willing to fish thru the stink. I can't think of any site that has more integrity than Techreport. You gu...

So what GPUs are entirely obsolete now?

I'd be curious to see what today's generation of GPUs compare to older generations. I've always found it interesting how quickly some of those monstrous GPUs with unbelievably fancy he atsinks and fans become utterly obsolete in a 5-10 year span. As an older gamer, I tend to prefer playing the class...

Review of Warranty/RMA Processes?

After seeing that OCZ returns graph in the latest ARC 100 review, it occurred to me how meaningless alot of warranties are. For example, I often relate to my clients how frequently I get calls from clients whereby they've wasted hours on the phone and thru email with manufacturers just trying to get...
