Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Extra!

It's embarrassing how much of it I've drunk in the last two weeks.

Re: Best 24 port managed switches

Well, the ultimate managed switches are Meraki, but they aren't a cheap date by any means. The best mix of price and features to me have come from HP switches. The 1920's are good, and are clearly re-badged 3Com, but pretty solid.

Re: New Fiber, Can't get new router to work!

So, duplex mismatch can happen with gigabit switches if the auto negotiate fails at the highest speed. Switches will default to the lowest speed, 10/half. There should be some lights indicating what they negotiated to. You can test by pinging the router from a client PC on each segment (or switch, i...

Re: Match these speakers to a receiver

I had a pair of KEF Q10's a long time ago, paired with a Rotel RX-845 integrated amp. Ah, the British sound, laid back, but gets your feet stomping anyway. The Q10's were the best imaging speakers I ever owned, before I went straight to headphone-only listening. I assume the Q100's are even better. ...

Since you did say 'high-end' and nobody else suggested it, the Dell Precision 5510 is all that. Basically it's the XPS 15 with better hardware and customization options. If you've got the scratch, it won't let you down!

Re: What Router do you use?

I was using ATT's provided DG-something with a Unifi AP-AC (the square one) for Wi-Fi. The AP-AC was kind of meh, but it didn't die and doubled as a space heater. Recently, I upgraded to Sonic fiber (gigglebits and LPB in one) which came with a Pace 5268AC router. It is not bad, actually, and the 11...

Re: Active Directory/Windows Server Help (DNS?)

Hm, interesting. The DNS on the AD side may need a MX record for your mail server. Depending on who set it all up, the AD may also have and Exchange box to complicate the mix. Failing any of that, there may be a firewall between you blocking IP and/or ports. Good luck, sounds fun! Edit: Oh, yes, SOP...

Skins are a way to present branding, and as such is very important. Your carrier also wants branding, not just on the physical device, but also in the ROM (not to discount that every carrier has their own air frequencies and channels). You could also argue that not just Google gets the user data, bu...

After a little bit of googling, I can say that the 6s camera is a 29mm, f2.2 lens, with a 12 megapixel, 1/3", 1.22um sensor. It can macro focus from about 2 inches from the subject, and on to infinity! DxOMark gives it an 82 out of 100. http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Apple-iPhone-6s-review-Soli...

Trying to wrack my brains from CCNP Voice, but there's been a lot of beer between there and here, sorry. Re: So... server building fun? Whaddya guys think?

Sometimes it takes a little bit of massaging the management to spend the right money. It can be especially challenging to get agreement with leaders who've not had a LDAP system, or an IT department. There's lots of good reasons above, however. For AD deployments, you'll want two servers, and one of...

No. We are reliant on data. Imagine a world where everyone and everything they do is a point of data: read, stored, and processed by a machine. I, however, depend on a bathroom being nearby when I must urinate. I depend on a chair to keep me at the proper height to type on my mechanical keyboard con...

Yep, I do a lot of this. The problem is the SID of the user account, which Windows tries its best to keep unique. I've noticed that Win10 is even more a stickler of the SID than other Windows. So, the best way is to copy it off, do the install, create a user with the same account name and log into i...

Re: Windows 10 won't activate after small hardware change

As of 10565, you should be able to use your Win 7 key to activate after a clean install. There is a system utility, that I can't remember the name of for the life of me, that writes the current config to a file. Copy that file to the new install and Win 10 will activate from that. Win 10 (and I thin...
