Re: GPU 6-Pin Power Orientation

Well, I've used molex to 6-pin adapters in the past, the most recent one was for a Sapphire 6950, since my PSU at that time did not have dual graphics connectors. There was one in the card's box, so I thought to myself, "might as well use that for now and save for a new build." This was fo...

Does anyone have a Cortex A7 based device, such as the Mediatek MT8125 devices (like Memo Pad HD 7) or various Allwinner A31 based devices? Okay, as promised, Cortex A7 results: (Onda v812 Allwinner A31, Firmware v3.2.1/Android 4.2.2) Kraken 1.1: 21472.0 ms +/- 0.3% Octane 2.0: 1432 For comparison'...

Re: Firefox on Android benchmark

My lenovo k900 got 32199 in kraken. My cubot 6589a (MTK 6589) got 17249 in kraken and 1573 in octane. Using firefox on my k900 is so slow its almost painful. Its still running octane, ill post when its done. Edit: The k900 can't complete the test, it just crashes. I tried it on my Asus TF101 and it...

Anybody remember this? http://www.vanshardware.com/indexOld.html

The old senior editor of THG, Van Smith, set it up some falling out with the Pabst himself (http://forums.anandtech.com/archive/index.php/t-761136.html). Man, those were the times, eh? :)

Re: web browsing skips music

Are the websites that cause the music to skip Flash-heavy? Or is the skipping behavior consistent across all sorts and forms of websites? Have you tried using a different browser? It might be something related to the Flash plugin, or possibly hardware-accelerated Flash. Could you please post what ve...

Re: LibreOffice 3.6.1

Been using the 3.6.x releases since they were released as final. The LO guys are fast compared to Apache and even the Calligra devs, you gotta give them that, but even the final releases can (should?) be considered rolling--made the mistake of trying of 3.6.0 in production, and man, it crashed a lot...

Re: Linus Torvalds hammers Nvidia for lack of Linux support?

I believe Torvalds' beef with Nvidia lies not only with their reluctance to disclose specs to driver/kernel hackers, but also because they're actually making money off Linux already--most Tegra devices sold come with Android--which is already in the process of being merged back into mainline Linux. ...

Yeah, won't the Catalyst SB drivers cover this already? http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx

Unless your board has an additional NEC, Fresco Logic, or ASMedia chip, you won't need anything else :)

AMD To Drop Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000 Catalyst Support?

Hey everyone, AMD is reportedly planning to axe Linux (and most likely, Windows, too) Catalyst driver support for pre-HD5000 series of graphics cards by mid-year, according to Phoronix: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd_catalyst_legacy2&num=1 I generally trust Phoronix, ...

The new metro UI is just weird to me. I try to think about it being a touch interface on a tablet, and it still seems weird. I'm trying to give it some time to grow on me. I did find this while googling around this morning: There is a registry key that you can toggle to turn the desktop style start...

Re: Building a budget Data Recovery workstation.

Why a Barracuda Green and not a 7200 rpm drive? You're after capacity? Get a 7200 rpm one as your primary one, then a 'scratch' drive where you can copy system images and files from the recoveries. Less risky all around. You may or may not skip the 4GB module, since they're pretty cheap nowadays. Mo...

Re: Worth Upgrading?

At what resolution/s do you game, MrBerg? I agree with Sunburn74. The 5850 is still quite a fast card. A 6950/560ti-level upgrade would probably be your minimum, but even those don't really break into sweat when gaming at a fairly usual res like 1080p, unless you like turning the fancy, shiny effect...

Re: AMD Phenom II X4 960T vs Phenom X6 1055

You are correct. The difference at stock of the hexa-core 1055T (2.8GHz) and a similarly-clocked quad-core Phenom II is negligible at best, since not many apps and games can make use of the extra two cores. If the difference is a big as you say it is (100 bucks), then the 960T looks even more entici...

Chill out, dude. It's a weekend. Some people log off and disconnect from their computers, too. That out of the way, breaking those ribbon type connectors are certainly a PITA. I've done pretty much the same thing with a flat ribbon connector on a portable navigation device and it wasn't pretty. (bro...

1. Swapped a dying AM2 nForce 520 board (SATA ports are intermittent) with a new-ish Gigabyte 785GM board without uninstalling or wiping anything. Laser toner printer carts, especially ones from third parties, are usually hit or miss, but they're great value. Perfect for printing tons of documents that don't really need print press-quality, like school or office reports and other day-to-day stuff. :D They're prone to having grayer-than-usual b...

Re: RIP DFi Lanparty

I wonder if someone like MSI or Asus could hire Oskar Wu away from them. For those who don't remember, he was the driving force behind Abit's enthusiast boards back in their heyday; his move to DFI coincided with DFI's rise (and the start of Abit's decline) as an enthusiast brand. I doubt it would ...

No love for AMD Tbirds around here? Hell, they consumed lots of power and required screaming (literally, at least for 60mm fans :o ) cooling once past 1GHz, but boy, were they great. For CPU/mem subsystem stress testing, I've come to love IntelBurnTest ( http://www.xgamingstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?9-RELEASE-IntelBurnTest-v2.52 ). Heh, you're welcome. :) Many times I've considered jumping platforms myself (to Penryn, Westmere, and now Sandy Bridge), but man, AMD's relative cheapness and friendliness to enthusiasts, and socket longevity still win me over. 8) Hard to beat that, I guess: My 720BE has been with me for more than 2...

Hello, OP. Welcome to Phenom II ownership. PhenomMsrTweaker ( http://phenommsrtweake.sourceforge.net/ ) could be useful in your case. I've successfully used it to both run my 720BE (quad-unlocked) at a lower speed when not at full load, and at an OC'ed speed (3.2GHz) when processing muscle is needed...
