Re: Bye, Bloomfield: First Big PC Overhaul

If you want another 7 year processor, spend the money and get the 1700X. Save the money from going a step down on the motherboard and the PSU. 750W is a lot for a system with just a 960. 600 watt gold or titanium should be just fine. This was my initial thought as well, move down to a 'cheaper' sea...

Re: Surprise! Creator 10 Update Applied...

No complaints for me so far and I might even say this has been the 'best' major update in quite awhile, not so much for the features but that combined with no issues makes me say this. Certainly seems the most problem free here as well. Same amount of machines, though most of them sit unused. They ...

Re: Surprise! Creator 10 Update Applied...

So I agreed to Windows 10 "feature updates" on my workstation. And now I got the creator update. Whoops! Well, it seems to be fine. So what's next? There is a huge list of "tips" in my Edge browser, so I'm going through those now. Questions in the meantime... Q1 - I currently ha...

Give this program a try and setup the dynamic booster option, in any event go through the few settings.

You know Chuck, I can't tell if you're being serious or trolling. But I'm just going to imagine for one second you're serious. So as far as Intel "sucking," let's state these facts: 1) Intel is ten fold the size of AMD with many more engineers and dollars at its disposal. They should have...

Seems rather obvious for me and that is that AMD is back in a big way and that is nothing but good for us consumers...except for Chuck:)

Re: Hey guys!! Need a bit of help!

Considering you have already upgraded the video card to Nvidia then I would grab a G-Sync Monitor but no more than a 27 inch I would think to not push the card too hard.

You could go 4k but I'm thinking it will stress the 1060, if not now then certainly in a year or two as newer games are released.

I am done with that crap as well and what finished it for me was getting a lifetime license for Adguard, absolutely love it and use it on my LG G4 as well.

Re: SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD (similar boot and load times)

About this. Does or has anyone upgraded from a good 2.5 sata SSD to an NMVe on a newer CPU??  Just wondering if there is a human perceivable noticeable real world improvement?? I am planning on building a new machine probably this summer, and I don't know if I should pay the premium to get NVMe or ...

Re: Ssd as a portable drive, recycle bin and system volume info

Thank you folks and I have no idea why I never thought of a boot cd but thats what I will do. Yes I had already done the formatting to fat32, as neither the car or receiver will read exfat and certainly not ntfs. One question though, would I be wise to use my windows pc and move all my music files t...

Ssd as a portable drive, recycle bin and system volume info

Hi folks, I hope someone gets what I am trying to ask as I could not think of how to put this into Google. I have an older ssd, 128gb, that I put in a small enclosure and want to use it in my car and with the USB on my home receiver. My reciever said it would not recognize a 'sata bridge' which is w...

You could also check this out as well as I see no reason, provided you have the cooling, to have that CPU at 4.2

LOL, I hear ya Pete but my plan was to buy 2 480's and mentioned that earlier in this thread but Chrispy convinced me in one of his own replies to go for the 1060's.  I took advantage of the red hot housing market up here in Canada and sold and downsized to a townhouse that was still relatively chea...

A little update, I gave the boys a choice, either we take a trip down south or I upgrade all of our computers, guess which one they took lol. The oldest boy ended up with my 'old' 27 inch Dell 1440p, Gtx 1060 6gb, Gigabyte Gaming 3 board, 16 gigs of ram and my "old" 4690k oc'ed to 4.6. The...

Polaris matches Maxwell, and the RX480 is a GTX970 with Freesync. ⋅ It doesn't overclock. ⋅ Factory OC models are barely any faster than reference. ⋅ The sweet spot for performance/Watt and performance/noise is slightly slower and lower than the reference clock of 1266...

Re: Are you buying a RX 480?

The Asus Strix is by far the best cooled but it's so expensive you could buy a GTX1070 and walk away laughing. Next up is the Powercolor Devil triple-fan that seems well made and has plenty of surface area. It's priced pretty well too. The better dual-fan coolers look to be the MSI Gaming X and the...
