Re: 4K Video

Technically if your system and bandwidth can handle the 4K, it's going to be the better option, even without a 4K display given the superior bit rate. That being said the actual visible difference is (in my anecdotal experience), very limited, and depends to some degree on the specific video (e.g. y...

Re: ChromeOS vs XFCE vs Win8.x user interfaces.

FWIW with a Chromebook your last ~1,000 or ~10,000 most recent Google Drive files are automatically made available offline. For most people it's not really an issue to have your files offline as it's handled transparently in the background for you, but it is true that you cannot tag a folder as avai...

Re: Netbook replacement = Chromebook?

Chromebooks are great and all except for a coupel ARM based ones are very snappy performers considering the price point. Contrary to what some believe, they do just about everything offline that any other laptop does. In your case Chrome OS won't cut it though, but actually there's an easy solution ...

Re: GRIPE!Why no EA or popular sports games on the PC

This has killed me for years...just imagine how awesome an NFL game could be running on the PC, on a next-gen engine, what you could do with the grass, the crowd, the detail of the players. Maybe some day.

This! Still the best 2.1 computer speakers for my money, even 10 years later. Really can't be beat. You might even still be able to find them in a Best Buy to hear 'em for yourself. They pack a serious wallop.

Re: building pc for parents

Do a little homework on Chrome OS, sounds like it's all your parents need. For $179 you can go this route: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8919600 Haswell, SSD, USB 3.0, card reader, dual band wifi & gigabit ethernet. For the price you probably can't be...

Re: New notebook in a few months

Go for a Chromebook. You'll get better hardware for the money, it sounds like it will better fit your wife's needs, and probably be a more enjoyable/easier to manage system for her (and, by extension, you :p). You can pick up the Acer C720 for all of $200 (with a Haswell chip), a 4gb model for $250,...

Re: Internet speed?

7 is fine. Gaming requires very little bandwidth, it's all about latency, and while that tends to go down some with increase in speed, that's not an absolute rule and the law of diminishing returns sets in fast (esp. by ~10mbps).

Honestly the G+ photo experience can't be beat for this kind of stuff, especially now that they built Snapseed into their editing controls. Take this from someone who has used them all, for way too long: Netflix is the best place to start for most people. I'd definitely recommend a laptop with a high density IPS panel. You'll see more of your images and enjoy better color accuracy. Obviously you're going to need a reasonable amount of processing power, and it sounds like you're concerned about battery life as well. If you're not in a hurry I'd say st...

I've used all three pretty extensively in a professional environment. While they all work great (seriously, all of them = great, this stuff has come a long ways), I would definitely give the nod to Parallels. While vmware fusion was good, I remember it being overall not quite as polished as Parallel...

Your best bet is probably going to be an AT&T prepaid. They have 10 cent/minute plans, no daily charges, or $2 unlimited daily only on the days you use it. And their coverage is going to almost surely beat t-mobile in rural areas.

If he's buying it today, the Nexus 10 is an easy pick. For $400 you get full, unadulterated stock Android. It has a great processor, 2 gigs of ram. And best yet--a 300ppi screen (2560x1600 resolution, the iPad 2 for the same price is 1024). It also has front-facing stereo speakers which is a rarity....

Re: What to replace GTX 580 with?

I'm with everyone else: not worth it, wait till at least next generation. That said, if you really do want to upgrade, I'd recommend something like EVGA's GTX670 FTW. That's a 670 built on a 680's PCB and OC'd. Out of the box it has more or less identical performance to a 680, with the superior cool...

That said cooling pads, in my experience, work extremely well. Many of them are however total junk. My personal favorite over the years has been Logitech's ...

The truth is there just isn't an easy automagical answer to give. Your best bet is to make a simple spreadsheet of all your games. This sounds painful but I bet you can compile it in under an hour, and going into the future when you buy a game you'll just take a second to add it to the spreadsheet. ...

So /wiki, the slash there would go to the root directory of your web host. This might have been wrong because you wiki folder was likely in a public_html or www folder, thus the path was wrong.
