Been a while since I checked to see what's going on here. Still miss this site. While I wasn't a frequent poster, thought I'd at least say hello.

Re: Amazon Ordering Processing

No issues here in Atlanta. Same comments as others above - I'm always careful to order directly from Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon. Unless I explicitly choose the slower shipping to get a credit things ship very quickly and arrive as expected. (2 days for prime, sometimes next day) Often I have the ...

Re: TR Gerbil's Choice Review I - Official Thread

Jeff did a regular Optane review with graphs and everything two years ago. I think that for round 2, unusual uses and endurance testing would be more valuable. Jeff's review was a good start for sure. I think there is still some questions when it comes to a price trade-off though. Given the prices ...

Miele. There is no substitute. Yes, they're pricey, but they last forever (going on 15 years for mine). Also, canister will always be more versatile than an upright. Another vote for Miele! I chewed through a couple of inexpensive uprights before finally caving and getting a Miele. It's made well a...

Newegg search and filtering is pretty awesome. These days I get most components from Newegg or the local Microcenter. All other stuff from Amazon.

@DPete27 That's generally what I was thinking but nice to get the additional input. @K-L-Waster - that's a good point. I'll be curious to see how it sounds. At the moment I have a few options for adding some exhaust fans to the case to help with it if needed. Also, as of late, more often than not I ...

I'm a pretty casual gamer - Diablo 3 now and then but looking forward to playing through some Steam backlog including Witcher 3 and will likely want to revisit Farcry at some point. I'm currently using a 970 but I upgraded my monitor to a 38" wide screen (3840x1600) so I figure a little more oo...

Currently using a Ubiquiti ER-5-POE. Also using three Ubiquiti access points, a Unifi cloud key to host the gui and a Unifi Switch (16 port POE).

One of these days I'll swap in the Ubiquiti USG in place of the ER-5-POE so I can access it all from the same GUI and have access to all the stats.

Re: Low Power Home Server

Here's a quick recommendation:

ASRock N3050 based board at Newegg

It has 3 PCI-E slots so you can add some Intel based nics if desired.

Should be very low power.

There are other versions of the board that use laptop memory. Though I think they have fewer PCI-E slots.

Re: Windows 8.1 network gadget/meter

I like this little freeware utility:

http://www.itsamples.com/network-activi ... cator.html

It gives you an icon that shows network activity. (like there used to be in XP)

It will keep track of your usage per session but if you restart the app or your machine it starts over at zero.

or

Samsung at Amazon

Just a thought.

So, you mention this is for a customer. I get the impression you would be building the systems for them. Once you consider the cost for your time and add that to whatever parts you buy I would think something like this is a very good way to go: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=s...
