Re: My first Notebook, how to care for it.

The biggest issue is really the hard drive. Since you're still using spinning media, be aware of when it is spinning if you need to move it. Any jerky movements while in operation may damage the disks. Also, never use the "Power saver" power option in windows.

Re: Intel is up to their dirty tricks.. as usual..

I'm still pissed at intel for their dirty tricks during the early athlon days. Even as a middle schooler, I could tell that intel was up to no good. There was no way that AMD had such a performance lead and popularity among the enthusiast crowd yet there were almost no AMD machines being sold at big...

This PureVPN deal actually looks pretty solid. I personally use torguard and like them. They're well established and have been around for years. Support OpenVPN on DDWRT routers too. They have good speed even with encryption on (saturates my wifi card): https://i.imgur.com/7fpeQCr.png $30/yr with co...

Re: Understanding Unlocked Phones

Any phone that supports Verizon will be clearly labelled as such.  None of the zenphones support verizon/sprint. The confusion you may have about the GSM phone labeling is that since 2013 or so, all CDMA phones are required to also be GSM (sim card) compatible/unlocked, but may not necessarily suppo...

I haven't used VLC in years. It was nice seveal years ago when it was THE alternative to paid software and windows media player.
I've since moved to zoomplayer.  It's a powerful player that I suggest people look into.

Re: open office compatible with Microsoft Office 2013 on win

If you have a .edu email account, you can get MS Office 2016 for pretty cheap ($30, I bought it for $17 after tax on sale): http://www.journeyed.com/product/search?qk_srch=MSWAH This is for the full 2016 suite, download to your computer, lifetime license (not a subscription). Well the diagram is just giving an example of the ideal cardiod microphone setup, given their range of 120 degrees, if setting up for a choir. I agree that your best bet would be to hang the microphones from the ceiling. Depending on how big the stage is, 3-4 should be sufficient to cover the entire...

Re: Microphone question

For most live-sound use, you don’t want an omnidirectional model Without knowing where the kids will be or if they are moving around a lot or not, I think setting up a few cardiod mics would be preferable to omnidirectional mics, since you could get a better sense of stereo sound (if that's importan...

How set are you on it being a ILC?
If you're planning on leaving a lens on your camera, consider the sony rx100iv instead:
-4k video
-up to 1000fps slow motion recording
-BSI sensor!
-24-70mm equivalent, f/1.8-2.8
-wifi control via phone/tablet
-300g
just remember to pack a spare battery.

Re: Recommendation for 2nd DSLR

Are mirrorless cameras under consideration? That sony a6300 is a technological marvel considering it's size/weight. Too bad it's so overpriced compared to the a6000. If you're not interested in shooting 4k video, then it is sort of hard to justify the almost 2x cost increase for the body. Good poin...

Hey, so I have an old mobo, still works but 2 burst caps. Looks like Chemi-Con logo, about 8mm diameter, about 13mm height, 820uF, 6.3V, 105C and KZG. I went to digikey.ca and it tells me KZG are typically motherboard caps, but they don't have that particular one anymore. So I looked for a cross re...

Not that windows 7 is bad, but there's really no reason not to go to windows 10 unless you're in a work environment with legacy software that absolutely won't run on windows 10 (highly unlikely), you need to your OS to be shiny and translucent, or you buy into fear mongering. I honestly like that Mi...
