Most of my video game time is dedicated to playing with my cat (Final Fantasy XIV).
Although, on occasion, Geralt swings his swords too.

Re: No wireless internet on bootup

I had a similar problem with the intel LAN on a friends computer. Windows always tried to detect [number]LE as a network card on boot, but the card was actually a [number]V, which got recognized if we initiated a search for hardware changes. The solution was to disable fast boot b/c hardware recogni...

Re: Vintage Computer Overclocking: i5 2500K

Just experiment. You will find a point of diminishing returns, where you'll need A LOT more voltage for very little gain. My Ivy runs at 4.6G @ 1.3V. Temps during gaming are typically in the low 60s. (I don't care for unrealistic IBT temps past initial testing) 4.8 has been possible but I'd need to ...

Re: Do you use the Windows "Documents" folder?

1) I moved the path of the documents/music/video folders off the C drive and onto my data drive. I see no real need for libraries, b/c stuff I save all ends up in one of the documents etc subfolders, IIRC libraries virtually link 2+ folders to display it at one, I would find that VERY confusing. Re: Gaming? More RAM for future titles..

Doesn't surprise me, you need to realise that pc gamers want 4k and ultra settings, while on the console side they keep everything the same and just increase the resolution to 4k. Most ultra settings are very expensive and add really little in terms of visuals. So it makes sense that console DEVs f...

Re: What are REAL consumer CPUs?

Almost everything you can buy as a person (not a corporation) is "consumer" grade stuff. It is up to the consumer to know what he actually needs and buy the according product. If I only play games and browse the net, a i9 CPU would be quite idiotic, b/c it would twiddle it's thumbs (or cor...

Re: Skylake-X Round 2: 7980XE, 18 COARZ

As I've said before, if only 2-3 AAA 3d engines transition to using more threads (3-4 instead of 1-2) then all of a sudden 80% of games will benefit. It takes time and money to do this, but it is not inherently impossible. Single threaded performance was "free" for the programmers while i...

I guess Intel had been keeping these for 2025, until suddenly ... competition happened. Whatever your preferred platform (AMD or Intel). This is good news. Unless said competition leads to a significant bump in single threaded throughput, most consumer workloads won't give a damn, and so will non g...

I wouldn't bother with RAM overclocks, imho back then the mantra was that it doesn't matter, which is why I opted for low voltage 1.6GHz RAM instead of some fancy OC'd xmp profile. If your display can only push 60Hz, like mine, you should have no use for a newer processor unless you do a lot of enco...

Still perfectly functioning, just the occasional BSOD hiccup that persisted despite reformatting.

My current system is 5 now and no instability so far. :D

Sugar addiction is easy to overcome as long as you keep making small cutbacks.  Actually, it's easier to go cold turkey. If I eat, even a little, of them candy etc: my body immediately starts cravings again, which last up to 3 days. Granted, my diet was never as extreme as the typical American diet...
