Re: For movies on disc (yeah), do you ever register your "digital copy?"

Why wouldn't you redeem a code? I get not using it, opting to use the disk for regular viewing, but it's never a bad idea another option, especially when that option means I don't have to carry around my movie collection to show things to family and friends. Dunno, I'm not exactly a movie buff. It ...

Re: For movies on disc (yeah), do you ever register your "digital copy?"

So my question: Do any of you redeem those? It has always seemed like a hassle to me so I never did it. But now I'm wondering if I should reconsider. I never could be arsed to do that. Why would I redeem a code for an inferior streaming version? I am still attached to the disc, simply because a) be...

Man, those were the days. Esp the latter one was played to death by me and my friend, at the end we managed suicide complete runs at the highest speed in 45mins or so, :D

Re: Best windows video player

When it comes to 4K BluRay I didn't even attempt a PC based solution since I'd need a post Kaby Lake CPU anyway. Instead I got a DV compatible BD player. Lo and behold, even the standard BluRays look a lot better when played by the dedicated hardware player compared to cyber link and my computer. Me...

Re: Using TV's with computers

Hi! Are there TV's that have a computer display mode that would bypass their image processing circuitry? In essence making them huge computer monitors? Something in the 50-65 inch size. Yup, running a Sony XF90 55" 4K screen since last November. Suffice it to say, that it is very unlikely that...

Re: Custom cables for headphones

Or go the DIY route. Depending on the cable you want DIY isn't much cheaper, esp if you want cotton sleeving etc. When I was looking for a longer cable for my Clear professional, DIY would cost me around 70€ + the soldering equipment necessary. Custom made cables were around 200€. Ultimately I went...

Re: So what are you using for computer audio?

Back when I was playing WOW I was listening through Grado SR60's and later SR80's. It kept the noise down for the rest of the house and made the whole experience much better. I thought Blizzard did a fine job of making sound cues and ambient sounds very useful. I know some people liked to play with...

Re: So what are you using for computer audio?

Since the ground return in the headphone cord has non-zero resistance, a common return allows the signal for one channel to affect the ground reference for the other channel, which causes crosstalk. 4-wire connection with separate ground returns fixes this... I wonder if crosstalk is an actual prob...

Re: So what are you using for computer audio?

I can see where slew rate and dynamics could be better with quad amps, but two slightly larger amps in dual mono are easier to calibrate (and less likely to have a DC bias in one direction or the other). I seriously doubt that modern opamps would be slew rate constrained on sth. like a 22KHz audio ...

Re: So what are you using for computer audio?

I'm using an XLR adapter that takes the left and right XLR outputs into one 4-pin XLR connector direct to my headphones. Ah, so you are using the XLRs on the back. Interesting. Does it sound better/different compared to the single ended front output? I've read that going balanced for cans is rather...

I did take the plunge with the RME ADI-2 DAC and it is impressive with the amount of options it has. Bit of a learning curve to it but it has a good manual. Updates that complete faster aren't the real solution, updates that don't interrupt other stuff in the first place are the real solution. They're doing pretty well at the former now, but if the latter doesn't work even on 100 Mbit they've still got a problem. There are a lot of people out there who...

Or, get proper internet. I hardly even notice when Win10 updates itself. How fast is proper (for Windows) internet, in your opinion? 25 Mbit still isn't there in my experience, but I haven't spent much time lately on connections faster than that. A lot of people in the US still can't even get 25 Mb...

Re: Rollin' in my [PCIe] 5.0

PCIe 2.0 is still good enough for me at home. Or maybe I'm on 3.0, I can neither remember nor care what PCIe version Z77 has. Should be 3.0, it's the same chipset I use (Ivy Bridge era). I'd be very interested in a standard consumer CPU that implements effectively the same or slightly more bandwidt...

Cool, another number to charge more money for.

Are we even in a situation in which PCIe 3.0 isn't enough for typical consumer systems & workloads?
Bet PCIe 5.0 will be like 3.0 back in the day, neat number that does close to nothing in reality.

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

Well it is true for MMOs. Boh Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft gobble up CPU power w/o any problem, esp when there are many people around. Not sure about that, WoW uses only 15-26% of my CPU and 50-60% of my GPU according to Task Manager, but only gets 50-70 FPS, at max settings. (Total load...
