Re: Processor, ram and motherboard advice.

I don't care for unlocked, because changing the settings of the cpu or motherboard might work well on some programs, but bad on others.

Re: Vaccinated?

Not sure how you define a "anti-vaxxer", but it's silly and narcissistic to broadcast your vaccine status as some kind of major achievement. I It is not. I'm merely testifying that not everybody is an anti-vaxxers and that not everbody gives in to myths about vaccination. Anyway: if it's ...

Re: Vaccinated?

It's incredible: each time you make a remark about Covid or the anti-corona vaccin, the anti-vaxxers react.
They really can't shut up.
They're a virus themselves.
It's very much the latest variant of trolls.

Re: Who is left

I wonder how W11 will handle existing RAID 1 installations, if TPM is not enabled yet.
I think I'm stukc with W10.

Re: Who is left

I think the primary goal of W11 is to make it impossible to install Windows without having TPM activated. That's probably why it's a new Windows. All the other stuff could have been done by an update. As a matter of fact: for W10 owners it's much like a normal update, because it's for free. It feels...

Barely. It is surprising that the forums are still, technically at least, alive.

I guess it's only kept alive because they make some money with advertisements, sometimes for dating sites for grown up men.

Re: The Tech Report forums got a big upgrade

I have a servere case of nostalgia if I notice how The Tech Report changed.
For years all computers I've bought have been based on information I got here about processors and motherboards and other hardware, but that's all gone now.

Re: The Tech Report forums got a big upgrade

Considering the subjects of the latest messages on the blog, it looks as if the Tech Report tries to change into an information management blog, instead of a tech blog. Considering the capacities of the latest processors and technology, that might be a wise take. Nevertheless, I like their system gu...

Re: The Tech Report forums got a big upgrade

Things went downhill because banner ad revenues dried up as pretty much everything moved to YouTube. <-- a bit of an oversimplification, but mostly sums it up While the viewership of young demographics prefer flashy videos over boring, old charts and text that outline the data/results. It is a irre...

Re: The Tech Report forums got a big upgrade

I think things went down when one of the original founders died during a sporting event. He did some spectacular but dangerous sport, miscalculated and smashed to his death mid-flight during a descent. Because of that, the Tech Report lost maybe it's biggest motor.

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

Computers these days are commodities. It is not because it has become a commodity, that it should become rubbish. Interesting is that your point also implicitely admits that indeed, there is something wrong. I've learend recently that one of the reasons that MS W 10 is so bad, is because MS has fir...

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

If I open a picture in W XP, I open it automatically in a program in which I only need 1 mouseclick to save it under another name. Now I need 2 clicks. With a hundred picutres, that 1 hundred clickes extra. Which moron comes up with such stupid 'improvements'? Saving files in Word has become a disas...

Complaining about it on this site is not the best place, because people on this site are by definition computer fans. They will only reluctantly admit something is wrong.

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

I would like to post a photo, but it's very difficult to be sure you get the same impression I have, because the rendering of the photo on your screens influences tthat impression. By the way: I have just met a graphical artist who happened to be using his computer, and he agreed with me, especially...

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

Most people have bad eyes. It's astonishing how many people using computers are wearing eye glasses. They tend to think it's because of their eyes monitors are difficult to read. But that's not true. And IT sales personal tends to intimidate people to make them believe it's not a problem with monito...

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

Thank you.

I would like to add that I agree with Just brew it about the red/green problem too, but that doesn't occur that much in software - which doesn't mean they should introduce it or not avoid it.

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

I know you won't admit there is a flawed reasoning behind those greyed-out options, but I want to try to make it clear anyway (no pun intended): If an option is not ticked, the user nevertheless has to decide whether it should be ticked or not. Greying out non ticked options is therefore pointless, ...

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

I agree. It's an 'IT is stubborn' thing. It doesn't matter: they don't listen to the users, and some users swallow anything from IT. I found a picture to show part one the problems: the greyed out area's because they haven't been selected. It's just a fad. It's not selected, isn't it? So what does i...

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

The mistake they made is that they drew the top-bottom hierarchical information structure too far. It's clear that titles should be easier to find than subtitles, then paragraph titles, and so on. But the MOST IMPORTANT information is the information at the lowest layer. The rest is nothing but a pa...

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

Thank you for your help, but it's also a bit typical of the fact that IT very often doesn't want to admit they've made a mistake. Fact is: it's easier to use Windows on my Windows XP, then it is to use on my W10, and that is because of bad decisions like using grey shades for letters and so forth. W...

Re: Sick screens and sick screen handling

It still doesn't explain why different columns in Windows Explorer have different shades of grey.
It only makes it more difficult to adjust the screen: if one group of columns is confortably readable, they other isn't, and vice versa.
