Yeah, that is pretty much what my bank said. They're sending me a new card and disputing the charge, I don't expect TR to get any money.

Re: Something's different...

Yeah, pricing for GPUs are just ridiculous right now. Crypto will eventually crash I guess, then there will be GPUs everywhere. But until then... TR Publishing tried to charge me for subscription again today, like clockwork same as last year. Like a broken record. No answer on any email, the phone n...

Re: Something's different...

Astoundingly it's nothing compared to what's happened to PCPer since Shrout left for Intel. If SimilarWeb is to be believed, that site only gets half the traffic of TR, and it actually got a 3080 to review. Community is alive and well around PCPer though, the discord is quite lively. Usually the PC...

Pretty cool: I like interviews like that. PCPer seems to have survived the exodus to Intel last year, their podcast is still going strong. Josh Walrath has also made some interviews recently. Oh, and last podcast was a bit of a special with David Hewlett on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ6Krjb7...

Watch your credit statement and then call the card to have the charge denied. None of the subscription links actually produce results. Yeah, if I don't get any answers on my emails, that is probably what I have to do. My bank has an option for blocking ALL online transactions, that is an option I g...

Re: DX12 seems to be broken with Ryzen in a few situations

If games have less performance in DX12 using a Nvidia GPU _because_ the driver is offloading work to the CPU, then it would mean Ryzen is a weaker CPU.

Re: AotS Ryzen patch

I am wondering whether this patch affects existing AMD FX line CPUs too? Probably not. Seems MSVC2015 had a bug that affected this game a fair bit. Upgrading to MSVC2017 fixed it. According to a compiler dev, the main problem was non-temporal memory writes causing whole cache flushes on Ryzen. Argu...

Re: I'm Bored: Let's Predict Zen's Performance.

I think what makes or breaks ZEN is the platform. There need to be a wide selection of good and decent motherboards. There needs to be the expected features, and they need to work. I've lost count of how many crappy AM3+ boards I've used and seen who has major problems (buggy SATA controller comes t...

Re: About that Polaris Power Issue

And what about whatever is getting power from the other 3 VRMs via PCI-E bus? It's is not a problem. It's the 6 phases that feeds the GPU ASIC that are split. They are controlled by a PWM controller that can be programmed to balance power per phase. So it can even shut off the three phases that are...

Re: About that Polaris Power Issue

They *might* be able to mitigate with a firmware/driver fix; after watching the Twitch video I'm not so sure a complete fix is feasible though. The PWM controller could just run the three phases connected to the 6-pin more than the three connected to the PCIe slot right? Sounds like a pretty easy f...

Re: About that Polaris Power Issue

The seventh phase supplies the memory modules with power using the PCIe slot’s 3.3V rail. Interesting. If the memory is only powered by the 3.3V rail of the PCIe slot, it would consume about 5 Watts of power (See PCPer testing: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Power-Consumption-Concerns-...

Steam also allows you to turn off auto updates on games. GoG Galaxy has more features. For example: Rollback Sometimes game updates break things. The Rollback feature is here, allowing you to restore your game to any earlier version just a single click. Game updates are now not just optional, but a...

You could try an adapter, sata/molex to PICe power like: Image

but probably you need a new PSU. Get a 80+ Bronze or better that is around 650 Watt and you will be fine.

Re: QUALITY AFFORDABLE-LOW POWER-POWER SUPPLIES

I have a Seasonic G-360 360W(1) in my server. Very nice efficiency at low loads and it was rather cheap at the time. Not modular, but it's not like I care much. The box has plenty of HDDs packed in cages so I usually use custom cables for these anyway. I have no graphics card, but I would think it w...

Re: Sketchy AMD 390X/380X Benchmarks

I'll repeat: the point of Star Swarm isn't maximum power consumption. Run Furmark for that. It doesn't matter one bit what kind of power GPU X pulls in Crysis. Some other game isn't Star Swarm, a stress test that doesn't do all the stuff Crysis etc does. Read up on what Star Swarm actually is.

Re: Sketchy AMD 390X/380X Benchmarks

That's what I'm saying. The Anandtech graph shows substantially less power draw than we'd expect. No it doesn't. Try Star Swarm yourself, you will get similar numbers. The point of Star Swarm isn't maximum power consumption. It is maximum batch calls. Like 100k of em. It's not crysis. Every shot in...

Don't pay too much attention to the power consumption figures Anand gave There is nothing wrong with the power consumption figures in the Anandtech article. The whole point of the Star Swarm stress test is to point out bottlenecks in D3D11. Try it yourself, the GPU will not be used to the max, nor ...

If you are serious about power consumption, do not buy a graphics card. Use the integrated graphics in you Intel CPU. Many of the games I like run just fine on a modern Intel CPU like a Haswell i3 with HD graphics 4600 runs Prison Architect etc just fine. Sure no top of the line FPS will run any goo...
