Re: Low cost gaming

Thanks guys - I think I'm leaning towards going the ebay Dell Optiplex route and slapping in an upgraded graphics card. As much as I want to build my own, it looks like this is the most cost effective route.

Low cost gaming

I kickstarted the latest Battletech game, and now find myself without a machine capable of running it. Money for this endeavor is tight, so I'm looking to spend the least amount possible to build, buy, or buy-then-modify a machine to run it. The system requirements are: OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or Highe...

Perhaps Im not understanding, but if [WidgetA, WidgetB, WidgetC] exists in the raw CSV then I would expect the Excel CSV importer to create 3 cells ([WidgetA and WidgetB and WidgetC] ). If they have some other formatting (like WidgetA+WidgetB+WidgetC) then maybe try opening the csv file as a textfil...

Oh man guys, I saw the "hot thread" "Scott W____ dead at 48" and the main page picture of Damage with the heading "Into a new era" and drew a very bad conclusion.
Sorry to hear about Scott Weiland. Not much of a music fan, but thats still tragic.

Re: Car recommendations

I have had good experiences with my 2012 Kia Sportage SX (bought it new and put 55k miles on it so far). AWD served me well this past Boston winter, and the turbo engine is plenty zippy. Although there was some hubbub about the gas mileage numbers being worse than the EPA tested ones, I tend to get ...

Fun aside: I did a mock draft a couple of weeks ago just to get used to the updated interface (it's all HTML 5, not Flash anymore, AFAICT, so make sure you check your browser is compatible). It was me and a couple of other guys and then five or six bots to fill out the league... but at the end ther...

The furthest computer Dear Diary More strange sensor readings. I honestly do not know what to make of them. I have seen such things before on occasion, and will dutifly relay them back to my Creators on that pale blue dot. I caught myself thinking, again, about what it must be like back on Earth. I...

Re: Cars - are they commodities?

So my question is, if one were to overlook intangible factors such as prestige, re-sale value, brand-loyalty and the like, do you think a Kia is as much a car as a BMW? Do South Koreans make the best bang-for-buck cars? Do Germans still make the "best" cars? Japanese? American? I believe ...

Exploding cars?!!! I'm always amused when the topic of electric cars catching fire/exploding comes up - not because it isn't possible, but because the car in your driveway *right now* has lots of explosive material in it (gasoline for starters). Ford has issued a number of recalls (on the Fusion, E...

Re: New 2014 Jeep Cherokee design - hot or not?

Cheaper than an Audi, but more than it's brother on the same platform, the Hyundai Tucson. While Kia is a division of Hyundai, the same exact parts cost a fair bit more when they come in a Kia box, gotta love it, you can chose to pay more up front or more in service! Yeah, that figures - although t...

Re: New 2014 Jeep Cherokee design - hot or not?

With respect to CUVs, I'd like to put in a plug for my Kia Sportage AWD SX. It uses the 2.0T engine also found in the Optima SX and Sonata Turbo, in this implementation putting out 260 hp and 269 ft-lbs of torque. I've found that it has plenty of power. Turbo I4s are the new V6s. In terms of design,...

There are indeed jokes - Olympic 20km / 50km racewalking however is not one of them. Yes, it looks ridiculous, but these are people that *walk* ~7 minute miles. For 12 or 31 miles.

I suggest spending some time thinking more carefully about exactly *why* the middle managers won't act - try to learn a bit more about the politics at that level of the organization, so you can put yourself in their shoes. At the very least, this may help you frame your arguments to them in a way th...

Re: Google Interview Question: A fully Multithreaded Approa

Maybe I'm missing the point, but can you make an array of bytes and use the address (index) to encode the number? You can then write 1s or 0s to that location if that number is found. So for instance, if we see the number 576, we make array[576]=1. If we have to handle duplicates in the input then w...

Hmm those are 2 sites I would not have found otherwise. Hipmunk seems to be giving me about what I've seen before on bing/kayak, but flightfox is interesting. I may gamble the $40 (which would be the finder's fee for my itinerary) to see what they came come up with.

Multi-city travel sites

I'm planning a trip to Australia around New Years, and looking at visiting a few different areas for about 3 - 4 days each (Sydney, Cairns, Melbourne), but it seems like all the common travel sites either don't offer multicity trips as an option, or (in the case of expedia) are annoyingly hard to us...

Re: Ultra-light x86 Win7 tablet??

It's a pretty small market in terms of x86 slates, and x86 inherently limits how "lightweight" (and battery efficient, etc.) they can be.I also don't think you'll find one with 8 GB of RAM. But I've been testing the Samsung Series 7 (4 GB of RAM, Core i5s) at work, and they are pretty quic...

My concern with a larger screen is twoford - what compromises in specs are required to get into our price range, and weight. She doesn't leave the laptop setup most of the time, so while it doesn't need to be ultraportable, she does have to be able to lift it comfortably. All specs being equal, a bi...

I agree with everything but the vacated wins. Rewriting the history books is just a dumb idea. Do you disagree with this policy in general, or just in this case? Its pretty standard for wins (and championships) to be vacated when violations have been found to occur. In this case, I think the intent...
