Re: StarCraft: Remastered

I'm pretty excited about it. I have fond memories playing it at LAN parties and with my brother - though mostly we played original Starcraft w/o Brood War. Coincidentally, I just finished playing through the Starcraft 2 campaigns again yesterday. And I caught myself drinking SURGE! and eating Pizza ...

Re: The impending death of the 3.5mm audio port gains a new ally

I for one fail to see what kind of problem(s) ditching the 3.5" jack is suppose to solve. What is wrong with the 3.5" audio port anyway? In the interests of copy protection, companies might be trying to implement something similar to HDCP to close the 'analog loophole.' That's just pessim...

Re: Question about DSR

1. The main problem I have faced with DSR relates to the interface of the game I happen to be playing. Since the game is rendered at a higher resolution and then scaled down, the interface elements tend to be much smaller than normal, and often they can be blurry. In one case in my testing (FFXIV), ...

...any feedback on the wheel welcomed! Man, that is the worst thing about the mouse for sure. The scroll wheel click on the G303 is way too stiff, and the wheel is a bit too far back for my liking (maybe 2mm closer to the front would be perfect). Just like you, I sometimes scroll when I intend to c...

It has two thumb buttons and the sensor is as close to perfect as you can get right now. It might be a good place to start looking, at least. http:...

Re: List of 1:1 mice

I'd heard that one of the Avago sensors used by Zowie was also supposed to be good for 1:1 mapping. Zowie + Avago - you are looking for A3090. That one is kind of a pain because the quality varies by implementation. IIRC if it says 4000DPI, it's a bad implementation. You'll want to double-check tha...

Re: List of 1:1 mice

Are you saying that there's something wrong with just buying another Razor DeathAdder Black Edition? IIRC the newer DeathAdders aren't as good as the older ones. I can't remember for sure because I owned a DeathAdder for a night but it cramped my hand intensely and scraped my mousepad (construction...

Re: Wow... I think Win 10 might just be the worst OS ever.

I do feel like they made a bad compromise - navigating to programs you use once in a blue moon is going to be onerous I haven't used Windows 10 yet. Do you know if the taskbar still lets you make "toolbars"? Those would probably work well for you. Here's an example of what I mean: http://...

Re: Video editing build

The way I see it, you can always change your video card at some point. If you do not get a 6-core processor (and quad-channel memory) now, you will basically have to make a whole new computer if what you get is insufficient. The processor and memory bandwidth are definitely the most important compon...

I do not know how much of a difference there will be between the processors, but there will be a huge difference between 2-channel and 4-channel memory in the context of editing.

Re: Video editing build

I do a little bit of editing in Premiere Pro and After Effects CS6, but I've likely spent more time reading about the software and learning about video processing in general (for what it's worth). Going by reviews I have read, I would definitely go with the 3930K unless you know you will get a tangi...

Re: Need a basic reliable router with wireless.

I also use a D-Link DIR-655. It has only dropped the connection maybe twice since I got it about two years ago, and it could have been my cable modem which was at fault. If you want a router that can handle a ton of concurrent connections and keep rock-solid stability, get a DIR-655.

Re: Mouse issues, high LOD

Razer's Imperator mice were made with dual sensors specifically so you could calibrate the lift-off distance for various surfaces. I haven't actually used one. Right now I'm using my old Razer Copperhead from about the time they first came out. The lift-off distance is terrible (rather high), but al...

Re: Windows 8- Sell me on it

OP, I do not know if this has been covered, but Windows 8 has native support for Advanced Format (4k sector) drives. Windows 7 with SP1 still only supports the 512e (emulation) mode. Why does this matter? You probably will not notice any differences, but in some tests AF will be faster. What seems m...

Re: Need an efficient VC-1 decoder

Codec problems/conflicts can often cause playback problems. In general, I recommend using (ONLY!) CCCP for your codec pack and selecting libavcodec for h.264 in FFDShow video decoder configuration. I also recommend MPC-HC, but this is more user preference and it looks like you're already using it. H...

The NLE I use for most of my video editing right now is Sony Vegas (movie studio - the cheaper version), which is really easy to learn and will certainly let you accomplish what you have outlined. You can also download a 30-day trial which will not install a ton of bloatware and is easily uninstalle...
