Re: Virus protection for parents

Agreed, AVG has kindof fallen off, but still effective. Microsoft security essentials is fairly non intrusive and does a good job on th eprotection side of things, i use and suggest others use it unless willing to spend money(for no reason unless you are a company).

Re: No Windows Password - Good/Bad?

Agreed, it depends on who you live with, and how devious they are, consider listing your friends too. I have no password, cuz i doubt my 6 year old son will do too much, and the misses can use facebook only.

Do you really have to completely disable it, why not, just not use it or delete the shortcuts.

Re: SanDisk ready cache ...worth it?

Yes, greatly. I bought one for my moms older Athlon X2 @ 1.8ghz, the OS and load times are about as snappy as a sata 2 SSD, miles and miles improvement before i hooked it up. Its not crazy quick like sata 3 SSD's, but very close to a sata 2 one, $50 for day and night difference in my case!

Re: What's your take on 120Hz?

I feel it really depends on what you are upgrading from. I had a 23" 1080p monitor, it was either 120hz 24" or 27" at 1080p, i am a little glad i choose size over 120hz. It also greatly depends on if your gpu can even play games at 90 fps all the time, to really take advantage of the ...

Re: Intel "Haswell" Speculation thread

it doesnt matter what haswel looks, performs or anything to me. looks like my socket 775 system will easily last me until then, thus successfuly and completely skipped multiple generations before even having to upgrade/rebuild. as long as it isnt too late in the year, i am a little excited for haswe...

Re: Windows 8 and the PC future

i personally think it will have the exact same impact as 7 does now. i personally dont find metro crap, cuz i rarely look at the start menu anyway. and other than that, it pretty much looks and behaves like windows 7. i doubt it would make sense to upgrade to it unless you had a touch screen, or if ...

^agreed. speedtest.whatever's ping test is good for detecting internet quality as well. if you are getting packet loss, generally just complain enough and they will get to the issue, good luck!

and you can also twist the hyper 212 so that its lined up front to back(i had it pointing up and down for the top fan in my antec 900). i have a cheap micro atx board that had issues with big ram sinks, turned my hyper 212 90 degreez, viola.

nope, kindof like intel, it uses hyperthreading, except its not any faster than last gen, so not much of a upgrade speed wise, minus the fact you now have "8" cores to play with.

you may have luck reloading your boot manager, use a install cd or recovery cd to get access to a command prompt. type fixmbr usually fixes my no boot/missing boot rec issues. im on a ssd too.
