Re: is it my psu or battery back up?

Did you try plugging the PC directly into the wall, bypass the battery backup? If it still shuts down then I say it's the PSU. What noise was the battery backup making? Beeping? Buzzing? Beeping could mean the battery is due for replacement. Battery lasts about 3-5 years. If it can no longer hold a ...

Re: PCIe slots - Questions

On a P67 those other two lanes are typically used for on-board peripherals: ethernet (since most boards use a discrete networking chip rather than adding a PHY to the gigE built into the chipset), USB 3.0 and additional SATA, etc. If we had the make and model of this particular board we could say e...

Re: PCIe slots - Questions

OK, the two x1 slots are always available as long as there is no such physical constraints. Yes. Does (x16/0 or x8/x8, x4) mean (one video card + one x4 card) or (two video cards + one x4 card)? If this is so, then in either case, does it mean only 20 lanes are used by these cards? Yes. Basically t...

Re: PCIe slots - Questions

2. Can the two x1 slots be usable regardless of how the three x16 slots are used? It depends on where the x1 slots are located. If they are too close to the x16 slot and you put a high end video card in there it will physically block the x1. You need to look at a picture of the MB to determine this.

i7 = full product quad-core with hyperthreading i5 = i7 with hyperthreading disabled i3 = full product dual-core with hyperthreading Pentium = i3 with hyperthreading disabled and quicksync also removed from the HD2500/HD2000 IGP. Celeron = Pentium but with some defective L3 Cache, so only has 2MB i...

The wheel. Sure you can have all sort of unimaginable technological advances in transportation. I'm talking about a simple wheeled cart you can use to carry stuff around, requires no power except your own.

Re: $500 workstation build slightly over budget

I can't speak for you but if I was building that I would switch to a mini-ITX and go with this:

Case: Bitfenix Prodigy
MB: ASRock H77M-ITX

The case has enough room for a dual slot video card if you ever feel the need to add one later on.

Does it have to be Windows based? If you can go Android there is the Motorola ET1.

Re: SSD mounting kit

One of the advantages of SSDs is that they don't have the same mounting requirements as HDDs, which have to be pretty stationary. I've seen pictures of people showing their SSD suspended on rubber bands inside the case that works fine... I used the 3M velcro sticky tape. Cut a single piece into two...

Re: Hard drive not registering

Go into Start, in the Search Programs and Files type "Computer Management", no quotes. Then go to Storage > Disk Management. There you will see all your disk. Is your mechanical drive marked as active and assigned a drive letter? If not you need to do so or it will not appear in My Compute...
