Re: New gaming build - RAM questions

I know that my current GPU will be the main bottleneck and not the CPU. But my last 2 builds were kept for 5 years each. I expect that I will at least go through 2 GPU upgrades. So I see myself using a 3080/3080ti or even a 5080-5080ti later on with this CPU. When I purchase a CPU I don't really loo...

Re: New gaming build - RAM questions

IMO I'd choose lower latency over more bandwidth. Games are notoriously sensitive to memory latency versus memory bandwidth. Thanks! Have you compared the gaming performance of the Core i7-9700K to the i9-9900K? Be sure to look at i9-9900K reviews that include all of the mitigations for speculative...

New gaming build - RAM questions

I have been really looking forward to Ryzen 3900x benchmarks so I could finally ditch my i7 4790K and get something with more cores. However after seeing the benchmarks, I have been mostly underwhelmed with the gaming results. I know that it's an excellent chip that excels at productivity, but it se...

Re: CPU frametimes not comparable across reviews?

All right.
Thanks for clearing it up.
From what sense I make out of it, micro stuttering doesn't really seem to be a big issue for the CPU side of things.
Eagerly awaiting the Ryzen 2 launch so I can build a new PC.

CPU frametimes not comparable across reviews?

Hi, I was just browsing some of the older reviews, when I noticed something. The testing for i7 8700K vs i9 9900K reviews show the time spent beyond 6.94ms for the 8700K doubled in Crysis 3. The settings were same and while there were changes made to the system, the main change was the 2080 ti, whic...

Re: Nvidia GT520. Worth upgrading?

If your friend doesn’t have very demanding computing needs, what is the Sandy Bridge Core i7-2600 not handling now? He only has an HDD and 4GB ram in it. I suggested he buy the SSD and some more ram instead, but he wanted a new PC. I told him not to expect much of a performance boost from the new C...

Nvidia GT520. Worth upgrading?

Hi, I am helping a work mate upgrade his computer. It is only meant for web browsing and MS office. He has no plans to ever game on it. I suggested he get Ryzen 2600, with an ASUS motherboard, 1TB Samsung 860 SSD and 16GB memory mainly as a means of future proofing it because while 8GB might have be...

Re: Bone Conduction Headphones

Hey there, I am an audiologist who deals with bone conduction on the regular. If localization is what you want, BC headphones are literally the worst thing you can do. Localization comes from both a level difference from both ears for low frequencies and a phase difference from both ears for high f...

Bone Conduction Headphones

I was just wondering if the bone conduction headphones are any good for gaming? I play csgo a lot, and I dislike using my headphones as it quite often results in a migraine. Bone conduction sounds like an idea worth exploring, but I keep hearing that its nowhere as good as a headset. But considering...

Re: 1.1.1.1 feels like 127.0.0.1?

For people who live away from NA, like me in Australia. Is it still worth trying it out, or will the latency make my ISPs DNS a better choice? There are going to be very few instances in which your ISPs DNS servers are better than the three or four we've talked about here. You're close enough to &q...

Upcoming monitors

Hey guys, Recently I have been getting the upgrade bug to get a new monitor. Currently I have the Asus Rog PG278Q. Its a 27 inch TN monitor with 144hz that supports G-Sync. I have been wanting to upgrade since they released the 165Hz monitors with an IPS panel as I really do find the TN annoying at ...

Kinda surprised not to see age of empires, age of mythology or even rise of nations absent from the list. I would strongly recommend the age series if you are a RTS fan. If you want something a bit different, age of empires online just got resurrected with a private server. Its an RTS game with RPG ...

Re: Can a 144Hz display help reduce eye strain?

Yeah. It does. I bought my 144Hz mainly for eye strain reasons. Getting a lot less migraines from eye strain now. And with G-Sync I can play those FPS games for a lot longer before I have to stop that I couldnt play at all before.. Vsync was simply too choppy for someone senstive to these things lik...

Re: Need some advice about microphone purchase

Yeah. For a voice comm mic get something simple and cheap. Definitely not condensers+preamps+phantom power+XLR... Yeah, I got carried away for a bit. Doing a bit more research showed me that while the mic itself might be "budget" oriented, the whole setup will just add up to too much mone...

Re: Need some advice about microphone purchase

$10 clip-on USB mic, like this . It's a gaming session, not Morgan Freeman narrating a $200 million movie. You are right. I dont really need anything special as it is mainly for gaming sessions. That said, I am leaning towards a desktop mic rather than a clip on. A popular PC mic interface are the ...

Re: Need some advice about microphone purchase

Looks like you need something with a preamp designed to be used with professional condenser mics, or a separate power supply. This mic is not designed to be used standalone with a standard PC mic input. Do you have any recommendations for the preamp? Or should I just get the phantom power and go wi...

Need some advice about microphone purchase

For the past few years I have been using my Sennheiser 363D for my gaming headset. Unfortunately the mic got caught onto something and I snapped it. Now, I dont want to purchase a new headset if I dont have to, so I was considering getting a desktop mic. Some quick google search results show that Fl...

I got a HD 363D on clearance sale for AUD$250.
Been loving them for the past 3 years. Unfortunately the mic got caught in something and I pulled on it snapping it off cleanly. However some superglue and 5 minutes later its still working as good as new. :)

Personally I love Age of Empires series. Number 3 looks good and plays well even though it was released 10 years ago. While number 2 has been released in HD with new expansions. The 2d artstyle looks clean and as a result even though its basically an old game, it looks and performs well enough today...

Re: Razer DeathAdder Chroma-Logitech G502 Proteus Core-Corsair Sabre RGB

After my G502 broke down, I purchased a DeathAdder. Unfortunately even though it felt nice, the shape of it made it hard for me to spam click in games. I kept holding the button down accidently during frentic mashing periods, until I got sick of it and got a R.A.T 8. The R.A.T was even worse, and wh...

Its only for videos, not for any gaming. So as long as it works without any stutters or other significant issues it should be fine. A little bit of latency and compression quality wont be a problem. 100% stutter free is impossible, but it may not be perceivable or important to you at all.  Every co...

Based on what little research I did, the adapter should show up under the connect menu on Windows 10. Hey guys, I bought a cheap chromecast device off ebay a while ago and had nothing but problems, which soured my whole experience.
