Re: Windows 8.1 update

Since April 17th I have been trying to update my computer to Windows 8.1 Update (from Win 8.1). However every time(5 times) I try this I face the Page fault in nonpaged area BSOD on the reboot after installation of updates. I have to restore my pre-update images and retry, but every time I just get ...

[ZDNet] How SSD Power faults scramble your data

Source The good news: of 6 expected failures, only 5 were observed; and 2 of the devices behaved as expected. The bad news: 13 of the devices had poor failure behavior. Every failed device lost some amount of data or became massively corrupted under power faults. Bit corruption hit 3 devices; 3 had...

Re: Crysis 3 CPU scaling, hyperthreading vs AMD cores

Minium frame rate show the fx-8350 stomping on the i5-3570k, and beating an i7-3770k. If the fx-8350 and i7-3770k where the same price I would get the i7-3770k, no question. But we are talking about 180$ vs 340$ difference. I think CryEngine3 paint the picture pretty well of whats to come, Intel wi...

Re: Crysis 3 CPU scaling, hyperthreading vs AMD cores

I'm glad Intel isn't focusing on adding additional thread width that's going to be essentially useless. In fact Intel is trying to make multi-threading more efficient using TSX . If that all pans out, an i7 Haswell CPU for a new build might not be as much of a waste as it is now. That would certain...

Re: Crysis 3 CPU scaling, hyperthreading vs AMD cores

Very impressive core utilization. I wish more games would take similar advantage of multithreading... As for AMD's performance in particular - it's not very surprising, AMD worked very closely with Crytek to optimize this game better for their hardware (both CPU and GPU) Which is a good thin...

Re: Crysis 3 CPU scaling, hyperthreading vs AMD cores

Oh my God it's another "wait, FX really isn't so bad" thread. Can we merge with the other one? It is actually about Crysis 3 being the first game showing FX-8350 surpassing 3770K. It is about whether this game is poorly coded for hyperthreading(seeing how you don't get as much scaling fro...

Crysis 3 CPU scaling, hyperthreading vs AMD cores

Hey Guys, Just saw a few Crysis 3 CPU performance charts online: http://i.imgur.com/0nIkCAb.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZYLY0xK.png Looks like this is a very mutli-thread centric game and also seem to favor AMD cores over Intel HT(8350 beating 3770K). I wonder if the game is not as well coded for HT as i...

Re: Arctic SGP Build, how does it look?

Is that all the TIM you used on your CPU? I know that direct-touch heatpipes require more TIM than plate-style interfaces like your Phanteks but that doesn't look like enough for either. Yeah I will run a Prime & a OCCT to see if it is a serious issue, if it is significantly hotter than my old ...

Re: Arctic SGP Build, how does it look?

I think you'll find that once you add SLI, your GPU fans will rev way up; at least that's what I found with CrossFired 6950s in an FT-02. My solution was a bit extreme: a triple 180 mm radiator + full-cover waterblocks for the 6950s, a CPU waterblock, a Laing D5 pump and the necessary bits and piec...

The best thing about Borderlands 2? It made my 670 SLI $80 cheaper.

Re: Arctic SGP Build, how does it look?

I have done this build, with slightly slower/older components. It's my current desktop rig. That said, while I know you already have the parts, here's some thoughts for discussion: GPU- Look into EVGAs FTWs. You want quiet and SLi, well, you can't have both without spending considerably more. Getti...

Re: Arctic SGP Build, how does it look?

Yeah I'm not really talking about heat, although they are related. What I'm saying is that with an overclocked CPU, 2 overclocked GPUs, and the additional case fans that you're planning to add will probably add a lot more noise than what you want. I'd suggest lowering your expectations as far as ov...

Re: Arctic SGP Build, how does it look?

You're really going to have to throttle that many fans to keep the build quiet. Overclocking won't exactly help either. It looks like a great build, just not a silent one. Do you have any other storage than the SSD? Regardless if you have that many games, It's always good to have a big mechanical H...

Re: 670 SLI in an R4 , daydream or might actually work?

I am interested in a follow-up post once you get your system together. Temps/benchmarks/pics etc. I might post a build log once I get this part done and start ordering stuff, will post pictures taken with my Galaxy S3. As far build goes: The Noise and Cooling advantages have really pushed me toward...

Re: 670 SLI in an R4 , daydream or might actually work?

Hmm, I read some of that Sherlock guy's stuff, but he is preping to SLI upgrade later, I am planning on buying my system now. At any rate, would switching to Custom Cooled GPUs like MSI PE/OC or Gigabyte Windforce 3X be a bad idea, or are they still workable with this set up? I read a lot of good re...

Re: 670 SLI in an R4 , daydream or might actually work?

It can certainly work; I was running 2x6950 in my p183, with some additional fans. Will you have the HD cages in? They will most definitely restrict airflow to your cards, which is your #1 goal if you don't want your system to be noisier than it would be in an open-style case. I will definately tak...

670 SLI in an R4 , daydream or might actually work?

Hi, I am attempting to build a SLI Gaming Rig while limiting the noise level: Goal is to maximize Gaming performance on a 120Hz ASUS VG278H while remaining quieter than the open air alternative such as Corsair 500R/HAF XM/ThorV2(selling at 101 on newegg), CPU is i5-3570K, will OC CPU and GPU when ne...
