Re: Radeon VII or wait for Navi?

You have a perfectly serviceable GPU atm. I would wait to see how navi pans out (hell, I might even wait it out for intel Xe, unless I HAD to game at 4K. I know you said your use case only supports amd gpus, but if Xe is succesful, it will drag all prices down with it. perhaps there will be a macos ...

Re: Why are game consoles so efficient??

I was just watching a YouTube video showing God of War on the PS4 and realized how good it is, not just graphically. Makes me wonder what makes consoles so much more efficient than personal computers. The PS4 is using only AMD Jaguar cores. You can't have that sort of performance from those Jags in...

Re: It Goes To Eleven: Intel Gen11 architecture doc

I'm trying not to get overly optimistic over this, but everything seems to point to intel breaking at the very least the mid-high end discrete GPU market. And that's more than enough for me. The equivalent of a GTX 1660 (or whatever covers that place in 2020, when Xe releases), from intel , will be ...

34.833 hours and 41,98TB writes on a Samsung SSD (that 840 line, too). Might have had mechanical drives with more hours but they either crapped out on me, or were replaced for lack of space.

Re: Frametime 8gb vs 16gb ram benchmarks?

Thank you! Unfortunately I seem to be in possession of an odd duck. It is a dual rank 8GB dimm stick. Patriot PSD48G240082H.

So does this advice still hold, or does the dual rank complicate things?

Re: Frametime 8gb vs 16gb ram benchmarks?

I don't mean to hijack the thread -apologies to the original poster- but while you're at it, one small question. I have 8GBs of ram on a system with only two dimm slots. And I can't find my particular brand/type of DDR4 "Patriot" ram the system came with, any more. Will it work in dual cha...

Re: How Apple Dethroned Intel As the World's Most Innovative Chipmaker

I know you weren't responding to my post, but if I remember correctly, the pentium pro was already breaking down x86 instructions into "risc-like" microops while apple was playing up their imagined "x86 is doomed" record for the acolytes (which we're about to see a repetition of...

Re: How Apple Dethroned Intel As the World's Most Innovative Chipmaker

The way I understand it ARM processors are decent for performing one task at a time, and to do a different task they need to be switched to do a different task in software. Not a good way to multitask. For raw horsepower, I don't think ARM will be able to beat the x86 design, based on, well, the wa...

Re: How Apple Dethroned Intel As the World's Most Innovative Chipmaker

It's WindWalker. He looks at the fact that x86 processors are actually useful for tasks that don't include viewing Apple-Approved content and picking from curated Apple-Approved ideas as the greatest thing that's wrong with the world today. x86 processors are not particularly useful for any task, t...

How about some powerline homeplugs? They're as plug and play as you can get and I've been impressed with the minimal impact on ping/lag. Much better than wifi. I don't think this is a very smart move with Ryzen 3 coming soon. On the other hand, if it props up AMD sales it may end up good for the consumer -in the long term. Short term, it does kind of suck, but that's the exact reason we need competition in the cpu market..

I have to agree with just brew it, and Rage Pro's experience only reinforces my antipathy towards Samsung. This company does not respect its customers. The core is running at 1050Mhz and the HBM RAM at a 'lowly' 500Mhz (I guess the insane HBM 4096 bit memory bus more than compensates for that, but I still get a chuckle out of it).

Not exactly a state of the art system (the i5-3470 is maybe getting a little bit long on the tooth for torture benchmarking, only 8gigs of ram), but my R9 Fury came through for me. Better than I expected.
