Re: Planescape: Torment: EE release on 4/11/17!

For my money, the best story-driven RPG ever made. Replay value goes way down. But I truly loved this game. I think I played through about 2 times, then on the 3rd, I just got bored. My initial playthrough (that I didn't finish) was what people consider the best route - high int/wis and charisma to...

Re: Planescape: Torment: EE release on 4/11/17!

One of these days, I'm gonna play it with Int cheated to max so I can see all the options in the dialogue... One of these days. Does anybody know if GoG's gonna give you a chance to upgrade to this if you own the GoG version? I imagine the answer is "Hahahahahahaha NO ," but I figured it ...

Re: Andromeda

I'm about 27 hours in now, but I'd say 10 of those hours have been spent in multiplayer. Basically, whenever the map opens up and there appears to be some tedium ahead, I take a long break to play some MP and get in a lot of shooting.

Gives me an excuse to finally finish this game.

Wonder if it will somehow, someway, make its way to mobile like Baldur's Gate EE did. I'd love to have it on my phone.

EDIT: Looks like it is coming to Android. AWESOME!

Re: Need media bookcase/shelf suggestions

Don't know exactly, but the measurements for my receiver are: 15.67 x 19.61 x 8.94 in (Sony DN850), but of course there's an extra 1.5 inches in the back for the banana plugs, so that first measurement is really about 17inches. I can manage a bit wider than that overall, and front to back isn't an ...

Re: Final decisions for new build

I'm at the top end of my budget, so the NVMe drives are pushing me a little higher than I'd like to go. I noticed that the Crucial MX300 1TB SATA is the same price as the Crucial MX300 1TB M.2 2280. Is there an advantage of one over the other, except for the obvious sata cables cluttering the case?...

Re: Need media bookcase/shelf suggestions

So, I'm looking for something tall (to help hide TV wires), deep enough for my AV receiver (Sony DN850) and narrow enough to fit between my desk and the wall (maybe 2 feet). What is the maximum size (L x W x H) shelf that your space will support? I've been looking at additional bookshelves lately (...

Thanks! Been a NOVA resident for 6 years, but finally decided I wasn't paying enough in state taxes and moved into the city. Living in NW is great though and I did find the absolute best deal in the city, bar none, for an apartment.

Re: Need media bookcase/shelf suggestions

This bookshelf is pretty close, but it seems like my receiver will hang out over the edge of the shelves based on the customer photos. If that bookshelf uses a cheap fiberboard backer like most furniture in that price range, perhaps you could make a custom cutout on the shelf that will hold your A/...

Hi Gerbils! I've moved into a new and smaller apartment in DC and need to find new ways to house my AV receiver and other electronics I connect to my TV. Try going through the first game without Garrus (surprisingly he is optional ) then going through the second game. There is some rarely seen dialog there and then some of the more common things you'd encounter with him about past stories don't happen. In other words, it makes Garrus run more calibr...

The official release is 11 PM CDT tonight. I was going to hold off for now, but based on the Ars Technica review it seems right up my alley. Shame about Origin, but that ship hasn't just sailed but isn't even on the horizon any more. I guess I'll wait for a sale and pick up ME3 as well since I'm th...

Re: Reinstall Free Win10 Upgrade?

What about a bigger upgrade, like replacing the CPU, MOBO and RAM in my gaming system (currently on Ivy Bridge). Is that a situation where I should be able to get Microsoft to let me continue my license? Or do I need to budget $100 for new windows too?

Beg your pardon, but since most console games are limited to 720p@30fps, that is being crippled . Crippled, eh? You must be old enough to remember when Doom v1 fanatics ran at 512x384 just to get to 30FPS for that edge in deathmatches. Hah! When Doom came out, my family had a 386 SX/16. Doom only r...

Re: First time home buyer

For home-wide Ethernet, look into MOCA adapters. They are really great at delivering Ethernet-level speeds and they use the existing COAX connections in your home. I used that to set up full speed wired and wireless internet in the basement of a home that wasn't getting great signal throughout. Work...

I had a similar issue with my old Rosewill Tachyon 550w - PC wouldn't start with GPU installed, but worked fine without it. I never really did figure out what the issue was, but since it was within warranty, I got a replacement from Rosewill, and a 650w at that. That was after I tried a different mo...

@southerncomfortjm: that Dell would be a good choice. $1,200 CAD  and it has a 4GB GTX 960m and a 256GB SSD which my previous Asus recommendation didn't have. @OP, if your daughter only plays the Sims, she doesn't really need more than a GTX960m.  Even that is probably more than she needs. What kinds of games is he playing? I can't find a link or anything right now, but I've heard that the RX 480 doesn't do nearly as well in systems with older processors. Seems like its a pretty massive drop off. Someone mentioned a GTX 760. Since I just upgraded to an RX 480 8gb (it really is a sweet...

Thanks for all the info, tips,  and opinions everyone. Decided to go with a Sapphire RX 480 Nitro + OC 8gb for $220 and, not having tested a GTX 1060, it seems like it was a great decision. The Sapphire card is really amazing all around - construction is top notch, all metal with a backplate. Defini...

Yeah, I found an open box Sapphire Nitro + at my local Microcenter for $211. Figure I'll give that a try and see how it runs. My GTX 760 was a Microcenter open box purchase and it lasted me a solid 2 years without issue. Hopefully this one does as well. Oh, and it comes with Civ VI for free, so ther...

Thanks! Only makes sense to get the RX 480 then since both of these cards will play any old DX 11 game at a rock solid 60fps with ultra settings at 1080p. I'll take the card that works better with DX 12 games (maybe because of async compute?). Will have to get used to AMD's software again. Been usin...

For 1080p gaming: RX 480 or GTX 1060?

So, my good and faithful GTX 760 2gb is finally sputtering and stuttering (literally) too much in the games I'm playing now (Gears 4, The Division, Battleborn) at the settings I want, so it's time for a replacement. I really think the issue is the 2gb of VRAM rather than the raw power of the card it...

I don't see the point in removing the headphone jack. Apparently all Apple did with all that saved space was... fill it with plastic. This isn't a feature, it is the removal of a hardware feature for the sake of removing a hardware feature. What's next, no physical volume buttons? All this phone &qu...
