Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

If this keeps up through Black Friday I'll just get a cheap PS4. Not much point with the Pro about. The original was ok but even when you're talking 1080p the Pro is worlds above it. At twice the price. I'd be looking for a stopgap on black Friday until GPU prices return to normal is all. Play some...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

Just sold my GTX 1060 6GB, only lasted a few hours on Ebay. Sold it at no loss price including fees and shipping costs, didn't use auction to try to extract profit. Good time to cash out for non-serious gamer, maybe come back in during holidays, or switch to console. Just an utter suck fest for PC ...

Re: Selecting my next Internals

From a gaming perspective, is there any real reason you feel the need to upgrade? That 3770K is still a pretty good processor for gaming, especially on a 980Ti. I was running an RX 480 on an overclocked 3750K and it I didn't see the processor impacting performance in a negative way. I understand the...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

I can't wait till someone figures out how to convert the upcoming consoles like the Xbox One X to do Etherium mining. :) I was thinking the same thing, except that maybe the XBOX's GPU doesn't have the compute capabilities of the off the shelf RX 480/580s since they may not be needed for pure gamin...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

Congrats southrncomfortjm. I'd encourage anyone else with a 480 to do the same. Let the miners take all the risk and deal with all the nonsense. You just put the cash in your pocket. The problem at this point is the miners are moving to Nvidia cards because they're a more economical, power-efficien...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

Well, my used Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 OC just sold in 2 days for $559.99. That's a solid $325 more than I paid for it. Wow. Did you have to ship international? I'm teetering back toward selling my card. Just too much hassle to mine. Nope. Amazon to NC. You can probably get even more than I did since...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

Compute horsepower is what keeps them competitive with NV's optimization strategy. Nerfing that because gamers aren't the only ones who happen to buy GPUs would be cutting off the face to spite the nose. I'm guessing they are looking into it. They want to grow a dedicated user base, and you can't d...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

Well, the mining applications are simply using the GPU compute capabilities. In order to make them less attractive to cryptocurrency miners they would need to cripple the GPU compute capabilities somehow, which I imagine they're rather reluctant to do since it would impact other uses of GPU compute...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

Manufacturers in general don't care why people buy things even when selling direct to consumers. If they're selling to a retailer at wholesale, then they really don't care. It'd probably be a bigger headache for AMD to try to adjust pricing or somehow discourage miners than it is just to put up wit...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

So, would there be a way for AMD to disable or handicap whatever makes their cards so great at mining without impacting gaming use? AMD doesn't benefit long term from these mining crazy, in fact they probably get hurt by it since they lose potential repeat customers. Just wondering if there'd be a w...

If you can sell something for 3x what you paid, you'd be stupid not to do it. Sell your card immediately before your miss your chance. Well, its up on Amazon. Solid $300 profit if it sells. Re: Gaming? More RAM for future titles..

Early demos of the Project Scorpio hardware have shown its ability to handle 4K, 60fps gaming Yeah right, High end gaming computers struggle to do this. Anyway, it doesn't surprise me that with Mods PC games are climbing towards 32GB of memory usage. Why do so many people have such a hard time unde...

Re: How long before your last build started to fail?

Every 486 and Pentium I + II system I ever had is still fully functional and so are their 14" CRTs. I only lost a few PIII systems but fully half of the P4 systems have died over just 15 years. Every A64 system works but I had to replace caps on some when I first got them. I blew up some Core ...

Re: How long before your last build started to fail?

Never had a build completely fail, though I did have to RMA the PSU in the gaming rig in my sig after about 8 months. HTPC remains unchanged after 4 years. Other than that, its just been incremental upgrades and additions. My original Radeon HD7850 (meant for a 720p TV) was upgraded to a GTX 760, wh...

Re: Consumer Vega launches at the end of July

It would be doubly bad if AMD created an expensive bill of materials (large die, HBM2) that couldn't go toe-to-toe with Pascal. Unless they already revealed this, or it leaked, there's just no way Vega will have HBM2 on board. HBM2 is just too expensive at this point for even enthusiast level cards...

Go for an ultrawide 1440p monitor with G-sync - I had one for a while and it was amazing. Next upgrade would be the processor/mobo/ram, then the SSD, then the GPU.

If it only happens with one game, is that really an issue with the card? I'd take this question to Reddit or the Steam community forum before RMA. I feel you though. I got a good deal last year on a GTX 970, but the card just wouldn't work for more than a few minutes in any game. So I returned it. W...

Re: PS4 Future

They just released a new hardware revision in the PS4 Pro last year, so I can't see them doing that again for at least another year. If you want gaming and 4K Blu Ray, you will have to go with an Xbox One Scorpio. Best bet is probably just to buy a PS4 slim bundle for as cheap as possible and then j...
