Help with fans

Bought my wife a full setup worth of parts for a Lian Li 011D. She loves the RGB, so I got her 6 Bitpower Notos 120s. Me, being dumb and never read worrying about aesthetics (I have an all black Corsair Carbide 500R from years ago), never considered that RGB fans would be one direction only, as long...

Re: Setup new PC, GPU not always used in games

Is this only happening with Steam games? Does it happen with other launchers (Origin for example) or for games that are standalone? If it's only happening in Steam, then it sounds like for whatever reason Steam doesn't recognize your GPU as an option, or sees some problem with it, and is therefore ...

Setup new PC, GPU not always used in games

Hey everyone, Not sure where to post this, you'll see why. Sorry if this is the wrong place. So, I built a PC for my GF using all my old parts after I upgraded my machine. basically everything except the motherboard and a couple drives made the trip over. I set everything up, updated all drivers, et...

Re: Fresh windows install on new SSD, other parts being replaced too

Got it, thank you! I only remember drives booting off PCIe slots (M.2 adapter, Optane, etc.) would be tricky. For M.2 slots on the motherboard it should be simple as switching the proper boot order in the BIOS. The other thing to look out for is that if you get an NVMe drive, don't force "SATA ...

Fresh windows install on new SSD, other parts being replaced too

Hi everyone, I have received all parts for my PC overhaul. CPU, Mobo, RAM and system drive are being replaced, and an 8TB storage drive is being added. I have an OEM version of windows (bad purchase back in the day) so I have a new Windows license to use and a USB stick to install it with. So, curre...

Re: What happens if I upgrade?

Thanks everyone. It's an interesting, if philosophical, point right? At what point is it a new computer such that MS would be justified in saying I need to get a new license? If I replace the CPU/Mobo/RAM, the only thing left of the original computer that the original Windows 7 was installed on will...

What happens if I upgrade?

I'm thinking I'll need to upgrade my old workhorse i5-3750K in the next year or so. Of course, that will require replacing the Mobo and RAM too. I'm running Windows 10 from an upgraded Windows 7 install. Will changing out the CPU/Motherboard mess with my Windows license? Just trying to figure out if...

XCOM2 I bought it ages ago and have only started playing it. I wasn't sure what to expect but it's different enough from XCOM:EU that I'm really enjoying it. The expansion to Enemy Within expansion was something I never finished because it felt too much like just another playthrough of EU. Sure, th...

Now that Nicehash Miner doesn't seem to be playing nicely with Radeon cards (someone correct me if I'm wrong), what's the easiest way to get mining on a Radeon? Re: STAR WARS TIME!

Destroying Luke Skywalker's character is unforgivable. Don't agree on that point. All that happened is that we found out he's as flawed as every other Jedi we've seen. I don't see that showing him as vulnerable, and susceptible to massive amounts of self-doubt ruins his character. I...

Re: STAR WARS TIME!

In space there's no free gravity and no sound. Most science fiction, not just Star Wars, wouldn't be very enjoyable were those rules of physics in a vacuum strongly adhered to. Would you truly enjoy it more if there were no "pew" and "boom" during those dogfights? If the answer ...

Re: STAR WARS TIME!

How is Rey supposed to avoid the Dark Side? Because it's a choice? Vader had a lifetime of evil, but apparently was saved by a single choice to help Luke at the end of #6. Luke similarly was going to strike down Kylo Ren in his sleep, then made the choice not to. Not really... though I guess my und...

Re: STAR WARS TIME!

TLJ is going end-up being the "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" of the franchise. But now having seen it I have to agree with the film's director, the trailer did give away a lot of it. Some of my earlier predictions in this thread were spot on, had a 66-75% prediction rating. I think a l...

Re: STAR WARS TIME!

Saw this in IMAX 3D and enjoyed the experience of it as a movie. It has good action, sometimes witty and funny dialogue, and good suspense. As a Star Wars movie, and a continuation of my most loved (and sometimes not-so-loved) franchise of all time, it wasn't what I wanted it to be. But, I think if ...

I'm not really complaining or anything, but you posted a thread asking TR for advice on what to get, got one suggestion, turned it down, and decided after a full 64 minutes(or less) what you were getting. What phone do you have? Do you want it tether from the phone or be 100% independent? I have a OnePlus 3T. Fitness tracker or smart watch

Gerbils! So, I found a Best Buy gift card with $330 on it the other day - no idea why I have it - and I'm in the market for a fitness tracker or smart watch. I'm basically completely out of the loop on this kind of tech though. Most important stuff for me is fitness tracking. I got to the gym a lot ...

I'm a couch based PC gamer, so my setup runs through my receiver (Sony DN-860) and into a 5.1 surround sound system (Pioneer's midrange 5.1 setup) via HDMI from the video card. For games that use voice communication, I use a SoundBlaster X-Fi 5.1 to get good sound to my Audio Technica ANC9s and atta...

Re: A gerbil's tv box choice?

For the best mix of functionality, simplicity, and price, the choice is easily the Roku Streaming Stick. It's what I use for 90% of my video entertainment. A Pi would be fine, but you'd probably need a keyboard to operate it instead of just a small remote. Obviously the added functionality of a comp...

I found one at Walmart a couple days ago, just sitting on the shelf. No interest in it yet. A year from now when Wii U titles totally dry up I might get one. Yeah, no rush if you don't have time for it anyway. I finished Zelda and just play Mario Kart a few times a week. Just too bad Mario: Odyssey...

Re: Need ideas for my next game...

For turn based strategy, check out Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2. They are also heavy RPGs, but the combat is top notch turn based strategy you can't get elsewhere.

Other than that, it's hard to beat XCOM 2. Don't really have real time recommendations since I'm all about turn based.

You thought the Division had an engaging story? I'm excited by the idea of a shooter that I can jump into and out of for some fun when I want to. Traded the 300K gold for WoW tokens which are worth 15 bucks to bnet balance; ~55 bucks. Right now the going rate for a WoW token is 157,307G. At the time I did it a WoW token was really cheap like 50k G. You can also use your bnet balance to buy Overwatch boxes. I've done that in the past too. I r...
