Re: My system won´t sleep

And the system sleeps. It's either Plex or Magician. I'll know for sure shortly. As you surmised, it might be that active network connection keeping your system awake. I've seen similar stupid things before with Windows. Could be that. My conclusion was premature. It doesn't seem to be directly rel...

Re: My system won´t sleep

And the system sleeps. It's either Plex or Magician. I'll know for sure shortly. I still have to figure out the Platform Timer Resolution problems. Something is seriously off there and I have no idea why. There are still a bunch of other issues in the energy report that, however, do not seem to have...

Re: My system won´t sleep

Gamepads or joysticks that are left on the desk in such a way where buttons are being pressed will prevent Windows from sleeping. Good point but I have everything unplugged except for mouse and keyboard right now. Even when I leave the gamepad connected I leave it on the desk buttons up so nothing ...

Re: My system won´t sleep

I googled "samsung magician sleep problem" and found that Magician had changed "Turn hard disc off" to never and changing that allowed sleep. Just be aware that there might be problems waking up. Just sharing since I looked it up. No personal opinions on it. This was the case on...

Re: My system won´t sleep

A bunch of coworkers and I were just talking about this yesterday. We all built our computers and we all are using Windows 8.1. We all have issues with the sleep mode. And it's pretty much the same; It won't sleep or if by chance it does sleep it won't wake up. We are guessing that something in the...

My system won´t sleep

I built the box myself about 1.5 years ago. At some point in that time frame, I started getting sleep problems. I'm guessing it's because of Plex Media Server that I'm running on it, but am not sure. Googling took me to this page, http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/win8/windows8-powercfg-energy.ht...

Like others here have stated, your base system is pretty good... ...But have you thought about getting rid of the Razerkeyboard and moving up a tier? Corsair K70. You'll be happy you bought one. Re: Would you upgrade anything right now, given this setup?

Heh, JAE's beef is with anything other than stereo headphones, and I kind of agree with him: Your brain percieves sound as interference at your eardrums (only two points). It can work out where the sound is coming from left-to-right by the time difference of sound arriving at one ear before the oth...

Re: Would you upgrade anything right now, given this setup?

I did some digging. Seems the card to buy is the Xonar DX. There are tons of other Xonar cards out there, but the one I keep coming back to is the DX. It's cheap, should make a big difference and is readily available. If this makes as dramatic a difference as I expect it will, the discovery of needi...

Re: Would you upgrade anything right now, given this setup?

The answer depends entirely on whether the DAC in the headphone box is nicer than the DAC capabilities of whatever sound card you buy. If you intend to keep using optical output, it won't make a difference, since your headphone box would still be doing the conversion. Your impressions of sound qual...

Thanks for your comments! That about sums up my thinking as well. Would you upgrade anything right now, given this setup?

Here's my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/automaticus/saved/RbQV3C I built it in the spring of 2013. I only play at 1080p so perhaps that's why my GPU has served me well. I play Watch Dogs with everything possible maxed and things are smooth. In general I've had little trouble with game performa...

I installed it on my system but haven't had time to really try it out yet. It's looking like Sunday will be the first time I get a real chance to try it out. Funnily enough, even though I'm still in the middle of Resident Evil: Revelations on PC, I'll be playing the just amazing sounding The Swapper...

Re: Has anyone tried Razer's Game Booster software?

I don't think I can handle any more Razer software after experiencing the completely malfunctioning and awful Synapse 2.0. Currently I'm using the older software for the original DeathAdder, which doesn't have as many options but at least it works! I'll give them a chance :). Synapse 2.0 really was...

Just found out about it earlier today via a blog post I haven't been able to hunt down since: http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster Though I have no performance problems with any games I can recall as of late, I still think this is pretty interesting. Has anyone tried this? If so, do you notice a dif...

Anyone tried the free bits of Driver Fusion up on Steam? I can't say how effective it is yet. As for me I just install straight over the top and have since I got this 6870 years ago. Re: Properly updating AMD graphics drivers

Thanks for the comments!

My conclusion is that I will be installing new CCC releases on top of the old one and leave it at that. I can always go uninstalling/cleaning stuff if anything goes wrong. So long as nothing *does* go wrong, I'll let setup do its thing and be on with my day :)

Properly updating AMD graphics drivers

Hey all! AMD CCC 13.4 were recently released and as someone who is still fresh to a self-built rig (I posted here about advice a few months back while building it and choosing parts :)), I'm fuzzy on the process of properly updating my display drivers. Back when I last dealt with this issue, in 2007...

Re: Need help fine-tuning this Z77 gaming build

You don't have to switch default power plan to "high performance", there won't be any noticeable performance increases if you'll do so... You can disable "sleep" for your SSD/HDD in any power plan. Ok, thanks! One mounting hole of the motherboard was plugged by a plastic peg tha...

Re: Need help fine-tuning this Z77 gaming build

Looks like you put a pretty large amount of thermal paste on your CPU - you should put a very small amount and then try to evenly spread it around (while removing excess at the same time) using a credit card or something similar... The thermal paste is only needed to fill in the tiny "gaps&quo...

Re: So which Asus motherboard utilities do I really need?

I took a tour of the Asus AISuite II utility and it's chock full of tools. I just updated the BIOS with it but that's about all it's been useful for so far. Mostly, it seems, it's monitoring apps and overclocking aids. While I don't plan on overclocking right now, I'm not counting out the possibilit...

Re: So which Asus motherboard utilities do I really need?

Just figured out that the simplest thing to do, by far, is to simply get Asus AI Suite II. It's packed with all their tools in one package. I'll give that a shot and see if any of the stuff is useful. Only driver I installed is Catalyst 13.1 for my graphics card. Everything else seems to be humming ...

Here's a direct link to my board's software list: http://www.asus.com/Motherboard/P8Z77V_LK/#support_Download_36 So much stuff! What's worth getting? (Also, why do they make that list so terrible to look at? I get lost in it instantly.) While I'm at it... should I use any of the following: ⋅&nb...

Re: Need help fine-tuning this Z77 gaming build

When I bought it about two years ago, it was one of the best rated 27-inch monitors around. Has that much changed since then that you're trashing it so now?
:/

BTW, the only reason I bought it back then was for console gaming on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Re: Questions about the Corsair 600T case fan connector

Thank you all! I bundled up all the case fan controller cables, zipped them with a zip tie and tucked them away in the top left of the case. Connected all fans to the motherboard. I'm quite pleased with the noise levels. But then I haven't tested what the system sounds like under full load yet. Migh...

Yea... Win7/8 does a great job of finding chipset/NIC/audio/wifi and other drivers, using Windows Update. The only stand-alone driver I always manually download is video card driver (since I play games and want to know what changes new driver contains and whether it's worth getting it at all). Alri...

Questions about the Corsair 600T case fan connector

Hey all! So I finally started building my new rig . So far, I just love the Corsair 600T. It's a brilliantly designed case in many ways--aside from the almost complete lack of documentation. My questions are specific to the included fan controller. After some Googling, I found this guide by Corsair ...
