Re: G-Sync Monitors?

Right, GPU-calculated motion blur effects -- are calculated based on motion relative to crosshairs... While display motion blur effects occur as you track your real-life eyes on moving objects relative to the plane of the display itself (independently of the virtual game character's intended focal p...

I am interested also....how do the blacks compare to say a good plasma screen, properly adjusted. Surprisingly competitively. A plasma lover from HardForum has given his "stamp of approval" on the Eizo FG2421: Got it today, set it up, and its great overall. The first and only LCD so far i...

Re: Eizo FG2421 -- 240Hz VA 5000:1 -- LightBoost-like strobi

Just to clarify; it's 1920x1080 Currently it's available for preorder on Amazon for $555. Which isn't too bad, considering Eizo's existing price for the Foris FS2333 ($400 for 60Hz). Generally: 60Hz - baseline 120Hz - 50% less motion blur than 60Hz strobed - ~80-95% less motion blur than 60Hz. (Ligh...

Re: G-Sync Monitors?

Let's remember gameplay styles vary from human to human. Some pro players stare religiously only at crosshairs at centre, using peripheral vision to bring stuff into crosshairs. Some people track eyes all over the place. Some people do not. And varies widely from game to game. High speed helicoptor ...

auxy/Chrispy .... Re: G-Sync Monitors?

Chrispy_ is correct -- strobing only helps eye tracking. auxy seems correct in this one situation -- only IF you're watching the moving objects, waiting for it to go under the crosshairs. Auxy did apparently say " objects your character is clearly immediately focusing on " which precisely ...

Re: G-Sync Monitors?

A good option for G-Sync with strobing would be to have a constant, traditional backlight for refresh rates under 85Hz, and to strobe only from 85Hz or higher. It would be nice if strobing could be effective at lower frequencies but I don't think flicker is ever desirable Yep, that's what my diagra...

Eizo FG2421 -- 240Hz VA 5000:1 -- LightBoost-like strobing

Eizo just announced their Foris FG2421 monitor: http://www.eizo.com/global/products/foris/fg2421/index.html This is a 240Hz VA panel (120Hz native, double-pass refresh, strobe on 2nd clean refresh). This finally bring great colors, 5000:1 contrast ratio AND an vendor-sanctioned official strobe backl...

Re: G-Sync Monitors?

Moving into a less controversal subtopic, as this is a wide benefit: Another interesting thing about G-SYNC is that decouples frame delivery times from frame refreshing length. So it can still benefit fixed-refresh-rate operation. It is now possible to have 60fps@60Hz, but with only 1/144sec of fram...

Re: G-Sync Monitors?

Since 2D strobing is an nVidia officially sanctioned optional feature of G-SYNC monitors: Even a "slow" 6ms panel exhibits less visible ghosting than the 1-frame blur of sample-and-hold. Just to clarify, both is cumilative. (I assume you meant it that way, but this can be easily misunderst...

Re: TN LCD apologists thread

Input lag and motion blur mean nothing to me, yet Le Mans in full IPS glory does mean something to me. Hell, in a single-player racing game both actually add to the realism. Depends on the perspective. We'd rather let the human eye add natural motion blur (go human vision limitations), rather than ...

This is 2013. Do not waste your money on any nasty TN LCD monitors. There are plenty of affordable IPS LCD monitors available. Unfortunately, there are no IPS LCD monitors yet that has LightBoost, a strobe backlight that eliminates motion blur: http://www.blurbusters.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/...

True, colors are important. However, you'd be surprised how important motion blur elimination is to some people. [snip] Examples: -- Skyviper's "SWEET MOTHER OF GOD!" post . Look at how he is dissapointed in TN, until he turns on LightBoost. (IPS user) -- martinje's XL2720T review . He sa...

Re: Eliminate LCD motion blur via LightBoost; Clearer than 1

The challenge here is that it's not the electronics (which have been 'overclocked' in these displays) that determine whether LightBoost is possible, but rather the panel. TN's can refresh pixels very fast, but IPS is technically much slower. Still, that may not even matter; there's no reason that d...

Re: Eliminate LCD motion blur via LightBoost; Clearer than 1

It took all these years, but finally, by accident it seems, we've tripped over ourselves and figured out how to get back certain aspects of CRT goodness. nVidia apparently already knew about this when they developed LightBoost. ( older AnandTech article ) However, it's only a secondary reason to im...

Re: Eliminate LCD motion blur via LightBoost; Clearer than 1

A couple of comments: 1. It seems that this 'mode' is made possible by fast TN's that can refresh each pixel faster than the 8.3ms required for 120Hz refreshes. To that end, it sounds like the backlight is being darkened/disabled for some portion of that 8.3ms, while the pixels transition to new st...

150 ms response time is bad, though. Professional competitors can easily have less than a third of that depending on the situation. Have a source on that? It was 146ms, and the doctor in question stated it was "uncanny". I'm kind of a spaz, so I've always figured the two were related. I d...

OLED or bust people. I agree! OLED is a great technology. But it's not done properly for perceived motion blur in all of them.
