Re: Budget Graphics for Ryzen?

Longevity, it will kill anything they do now, but what happens when people start wanting to do basic VR with Facebook as a way to video chat with friends, something they never knew they wanted to do 2 years prior? It isn't the 6 core, it was the 4c/8t 1500x. It isn't a build for me or a friend eith...

Re: Budget Graphics for Ryzen?

Why buy a 6-core CPU for web/email/office stuff in the first place? I don't get the usage case outside of some VMs/development scenarios (i.e. home professional uses where penny pinching doesn't make sense to me).

The APUs are going to be 4 cores anyway I'd imagine.

I think it'd be worth springing for the cheapest RX460 you can find.

Re: Apple WWDC keynote

What does Apple spend their money on? I don't think anything was announced today was bad or poor. But it does seem all very boring, very much what's expected. They're not wowing me with anything, even Microsoft can at least do that with their conferences. Apple trots out... updated SKUs and a Amazon...

PS, I'm not convinced that dual M.2 slots are absolutely necessary. For a streamer? I think its very important personally. Especially if a person is considering keeping this board anything longer than 2+ years. I'd consider a NVMe SSD to be a top priority in such a build right away and having the a...

Most of the stuff already noted i.e. chipsets used for ethernet, wifi, audio, etc. Overclocking features, etc. Fan headers and their placement may be important to you. One thing I noticed looking through MSI site is the difference in USB options. I'm big on having as many USB 3.1 ports as possible r...

Re: EPA vs. FCA (Here we go again!)

Several articles on autoweek.com point the finger at Bosch, maker of the engine control systems for all these motors. That said, if your badge is on the car, it doesn't matter to the EPA which subcontractor/part supplier screwed up. Bosch was also the primary supplier brought up in the VW investiga...

Well I'm sure you can find a used VW for cheap  Hah! I would think so... :D I like the Golfs, some Jettas, and the CC, but VW's notorious reliability is a turn off. I do see Audi doing very well in Consumer Reports' current overall manufacturer ranking, so I can only assume they put more effor...

Re: EPA vs. FCA (Here we go again!)

AWD makes this all harder, though, because most AWD non-luxury cars are Subarus, and those are horrendously inefficient. (FWIW, you can also get a BMW 328xd. Still, doesn't help with the whole saving money thing.) Maybe 5 years ago that was true. Since crossovers/CUVs have replaced sedans as the mo...

Re: What cases and PSUs are you guys using?

OK I have some rants about cases now. My Corsair 300R has the 3.5" drive cage rotated 90 degrees and uses trays that can also handle 2.5" drives so it is far less awkward to install new a HDD/SSD. This should be a standard feature of cases, so why isn't it? Glass windows on cases, why wou...

I'd really like to see Threadripper in mITX similar to one of the mITX X99 boards. It's doable but I highly doubt any of the mobo makers are seeing it as a high priority and I'd settle for mATX. Frankly my use case is niche.. compute node in a home lab at prices similar to say a bare bones *used Del...

Stellaris if you're into grand strategy games and space themes, its fantastic. The Witcher 3 if you haven't played it yet, it was a truly amazing experience and right in the mix for my top 3 favorite games ever. It's two expansions, especially Blood and Wine, are also some of the best gaming ever.

I wonder what changed internally to motivate this decision. Does seem like Canonical has shifted almost entirely to be enterprise focused and actively dropping projects not focused on that goal. I welcome it if only because Red Hat's increasing costs could use the increased threat from competition. ...

I experience a similar very brief interrupts in playback when using my Nexus 6P and car stereo via bluetooth, I'd say once every 10-15 minutes on average. I no longer have my Sennheiser BT headphones but I don't recall experiencing it with those. 6P + car's USB port = perfect playback, no issues.
