Re: Task Scheduling, PPID, forking, NUMA

From the docs: mcparallel evaluates the expr expression in parallel to the current R process. Everything is shared read-only (or in fact copy-on-write) between the parallel process and the current process, i.e.no side-effects of the expression affect the main process. The result of the parallel exec...

Re: Setting up a Syncronized Folder ... Thingy...

Have you considered an actual syncing tool like SyncThing (https://syncthing.net/) or Resilio Sync (https://www.resilio.com/individuals-sync/) ? I use Resilio among several devices to sync a few TB of data across several folders, and it just works . Sufficient conflict resolution for deletions and a...

Re: nVidia FreeSync support is coming?

I got this working on my Samsung CF791, but at least one of my games (Watch Dogs 2) has trouble alt-tabbing or with desktop interrupts like the volume overlay. When trying to return to the game the video cuts out and the monitor turns off until I alt-tab back to the desktop. Disabling G-Sync makes e...

Re: Fractals revisited

On the latest video, what do y'all think from an aesthetic standpoint? Is the animation too fast? Too slow? Keep the half second pauses between direction changes, or no? Just curious... 60fps FHD or bust, imo. Smoother animation helps with the faster motion while keeping it short enough to stay int...

On other hand, they just build new c-cast tower in philly for astronomical (undisclosed completely) amount which they need to recover :-(. I work there. It was $1.5B, or about two weeks of profit for Comcast (but Comcast isn't the sole owner). Comcast is a publicly traded company and is required to...

Re: What's the latest with Intel Thunderbolt 3 integration?

My working theory is that we'll be seeing Thunderbolt 3/4 in iPads and iPhones next year. Is PCIe even in the Apple A-series? Since TB is really low-level, wouldn't that introduce all sorts of attack surfaces and/or insane peripheral certifications along with a power-hungry interface? Imo, I don't ...

Re: Comcast AP and WiFi calling

Regardless, I'm not in the business of paying for free wifi hotspots for the public to use. No matter how unlikely, if someone were to do something illegal/nefarious through my connection, I'm sure it would eventually be traced back to me/my location. Whether easily proven innocent or not isn't the...

I'm actually very surprised you're using the Comcast solution. Even if you aren't paying for it, there's still all that crap where they automatically share your connection with other Comcast subscribers. I want nothing to do with any of their equipment. Your connection may be shared, but you also a...

Re: Comcast AP and WiFi calling

The signal strength and coverage on the Comcast-supplied AP is generally quite good (which is why I didn't look into alternatives). But if the ongoing WiFi calling issues are the AP's fault, it's time to look elsewhere. I see. There's also the xFi pods which are a one-time cost if you have a compat...

Do you have DOCSIS 3.0 (sub-gigabit), and are you paying to rent Comcast's Modem/AP? If so, consider looking for a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal on a replacement device. For example, my parents got this one on sale for about $120: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0781Z5PCL You could also consider a mesh ...

Out of curiosity, were any of your appliances hooked up to surge protectors?

What's your system load average like (in top or similar)? And what about mpstat (sysstat package) output? Unlikely. If he's running 32 to 64 independent monte-carlo simulations, there wouldn't be much cross-CCX communication at all. My bet is on memory-bound. Eventually, the DDR4 itself just becomes...

I know your power profile is on max performance, but in the advanced power options, make sure maximum processor frequency is set to 100%. I've seen a few programs that tweak this for some reason.

Other than that, are temps okay? Is the machine dusty?

It's a mix of data, if you zoom out/scroll around the bottom right corner updates with what the data sources were.
