Re: PC Shuts Off Randomly Then Turns on after a few seconds

I try to keep the power supply about 1/2 to 1/3 larger than what should be the peak load of the machine. You can use PC part picker to give you a general ide what the power use of the machine will be and then add a third to a 1/2 to whatever it comes up with. So if it says your approx power is 500 ...

Re: PC Shuts Off Randomly Then Turns on after a few seconds

PSU would be my guess. But could also be a motherboard issue, I suppose? I would agree with that. The best way to know is to get a slightly larger 650w P/S and see if the machine returns to being stable... Of course making sure your drivers are up to date, reseating the cards and ram, etc. etc. wou...

PC Shuts Off Randomly Then Turns on after a few seconds

Does this seem like a PSU issue? I have a SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W that I've had to send in for a warranty repair (Seasonic was great about it) a year ago or so. After the repair, the system has been absolutely stable. Until a few months ago. In May, I added a GPU finally. It's a SAPPHIRE PU...

FWIW I was puzzled by the pauses initially. For a moment I thought it was a hang during some extensive CPU-grind and then went "No, duh, this isn't a real-time render: the pauses are a choice " but it was only after a couple that I realized they marked a direction change. I doubt many oth...

Re: Cable modem cycling, how to prove loss of uptime

I've had a similar issue a few years ago. My theory is that the sun is heating up some components, and they're slipping loose. The tech couldn't find any issues, but he decided to just replace the connectors on the cable, and in the switch closet thing they have. Once he did that, I didn't have any ...

I was going to ask how you achieved the RAID (dmraid, or something else).

On my server I user Btrfs RAID1. Some day, when I have money, I'll get 6 more disks to stuff in the case.

Or at least one more.

So, my wife's brand spankin' new, wicked fast computer doesn't have a network port. It's WiFi or bust, and but it did when we needed it most. (The room she was in had poor signal and relocating wasn't an option.) It has one USB C port, but the rest are USB 3.0 type A. So, I want to get a USB NIC, bu...

I use Request Tracker at my work.

We use it to manage customer service emails, but it is used by CPAN for their issue tracking.

It works via email primarily, but can be extended with custom modules or using the REST API.

Re: LG 27UD59P-B 4K, IPS, FreeSync on sale for $275

Well, you guys have talked me out of it. I run Eve Online via Wine on Linux. The IGP gets 75 FPS (I think I have vsync enabled because that's the monitor's refresh rate...allegedly) on low-ish settings. It'll probably be terrible with an exponential increase in pixels, unless I lock the window to an...

LG 27UD59P-B 4K, IPS, FreeSync on sale for $275

I've been biding my time waiting to get a monitor that checks off a few desired specifications: 4K, IPS, FreeSync, not comically large, and cheap-ish. So, LG 27UD59P-B 27" Class 4K UHD IPS LED Monitor (2017 Model) is on sale at BuyDig.com for $275. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger, but th...

Re: Over 100GB of cab_xxxx_xx files in C:\Windows\Temp -- WTF?

I'm on Windows 7 Pro in the office. Had to have IT take a look at what was eating up more than 100GiBs of space: .cab files. I don't have admin permissions, so I couldn't clean them out myself. They certainly accumulated over the course of 5 years. Things got tense for a while when I had less than a...

Besides the NIC and computers, your switch will be a limiting factor as well. Any decent switch will at least have 900 Mbps each way.

Yup, what wizardz said. ISPs' DNS servers will point to local cache servers for popular content so they don't have to have it come from the source each time. If the ISP local cache server has a problem then you get poor performance. I was going to write that it could be the other way around and the...

I'm with JBI, there really isn't a big difference in thermal paste now. Personally, I have Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, a conventional paste. But, Thermal Grizzly also makes liquid metal stuff, too. I got the Kryonaut because I needed some paste for a reapplication in my laptop. The last chart I've see...

That's odd that the C7 is $10 more than the M9i. The C7 would have nowhere near the cooling capability that the M9i has, and quite frankly the C7 is just plain less material. SFF tax I suppose. I know, right?! If looks matter in a top-down setup than the classic Zalman flower coolers are hard to be...

@titan the Cryorig C7 would be a good fit if you're using the ASrock board you linked in your intel build thread. It's very low profile, and I had a pair of Gigabyte motherboards with the ferrite chokes inside the "CPU keep out area" specified by Intel. Technically they were within specif...

I have a PS4 pro but I just don't want to get a 4K TV. Don't want to get caught up in that same loop. Also, the biggest draw (for me) was how it can speed up regular 1080p titles and how some games (like MLB The Show 17) include modes that will render at 1080 with a higher framerate.
