Re: Thinking of getting this monitor

I have a similar monitor, the Acer P241W. I believe the difference is the one I have has HDMI. No complaints in terms of picture quality, however it is a bit brighter than I would've liked, even turning everything down is awfully bright in low lit rooms. Also its difficult to match brightness on my ...

Thanks for the replies. I was able to resolve the problem. For future reference, partition recovery programs and fdisk did not work. I still don't know what caused this but I was able to get back the data by attaching the HD as a slave and using a recovery program to read the unformatted hard drive.

Unbootable HD, MBR problems?

So this is a bit weird. I have 2 SATA hard drives, both are recognized in the BIOS, but windows refuses to boot. I can boot off the CD drive, and I tried using a Ubuntu live CD and it didn't detect the drives once i got to the desktop. Any ideas? I don't think there's anything wrong, but I've alread...

Anyone notice this new team?

They were just created this month and looks like they will be ranked in the top 100 very soon. At their rate of growth it might not be too long before they catch us.

It is too bad it can't since the xbox 360 is essentially a computer. The hardware is perfectly capable of outputting a 1650x1050 resolution. The issue is that consoles are for the most part connected to TV's and TVs either have a 4:3 or 16:9 resolution. The reason that it does not look correct on yo...

Is there any noticeable quality differences between outputting with a Component Vs a VGA cable? I doubt you'll notice any. Since both support 1080p resolution, you will get 1080p on your television. I'd say that a more limiting factor (rather than the cable) would be the quality of the TV itself or...

Yup, the only ways to get 1080p on the 360 is by either using component or VGA.

Well I'm using a Shuttle SFF PC (SN21G5) so airflow is limited and I don't have a choice in coolers due to the size of the case and how it is designed. The temps do seem a bit high though, everything is stable, and I guess I'm settling on 65C at load with minimal to moderate fan noise. This is highe...

Hmmm, well I see a few numbers, lowest is 65. AMD says 65-71, but its not for my exact proccessor (ada3800bvbox) which isn't listed. Right now I've found the fan speed that allows me to run at 65C with both cores at 100% load. I might try using better thermal paste, or telling f@h to use less cpu

safe oc temp?

I'm running a x2 3800 in a Shuttle SFF. It's OC'ed to 2200mhz at stock vcore. The fan is pretty loud at default. I can change the fan settings to where its quiet, but temps exceed 70C, I wasn't willing to see at which point temps would stop rising so I turned the fan to max, at which point the temps...

Excellent, thanks for the reply. So I am a bit confused to the different modes the WAP54G presents. Would choosing the AP Client option clone the router? Is the purpose of that so only one SSID appears You also mention a wireless card. I actually don't have any. I was hoping that this network device...

I have no idea how much it is to rent, but I imagine that purchasing can't be that much more expensive than buying. Once you buy they'll pay themselves off in 1 or 2 lan parties.

Anyone know or recommend some software that'll allow me to draw up very basic floor plans? Ideally it'd be opensource/freeware. Not looking for anything fancy or extravagant.

I'd suggest purchasing switches rather than renting. They're not all that expensive either. You need about 50 ports. The cheapest way to do that is either two 24 port switches or three 16 port switches. They come out to roughly the same price. In my opinion I like more smaller switches as it reduces...

close-together keys aren't necessarily efficient, expecially if they're an awkward combination like alt-d. I'm still curious wtf the point of highlighting the address bar while you're mousing is. As far as touch-typing f-6, it's ridiculously easy. It's generally next to f-5, which in turn customari...

If your hand is on your mouse, then you're not exactloy ready to type in a URL, are you? Alt-D involves a lot more contortion than ctrl-l, and you're not going to be typing much of anything until your right hand is on the kb anyway. Ahh, well the thing is, most sites I visit I have visited in the p...

"Familiar with"? I'm not sure that I've seen a kb without them in a long time. Also, ctrl-l fits the "on home row and close to home row" criteria at least as well as alt-anything. Not really sure where you're going with that post. By familiar with I was referring being a touch typist. Personally, I...

Alt-D is the fastest way as your left hand should already be on the home row and Alt isn't far away. F6 only wins if you're familiar with the F-Keys on a keyboard.
