Re: 4K HDR madness

Be warned: I need to vent. I can relate to everything in your post. Over the last several years I have adopted the attitude that display tech is such a moving target that no matter what you buy, you will be able to find something disappointing about it. I just bought a Vizio M65 and it is pretty fa...

This is OP. Really glad to hear that I'm not the only gerbil out there with a success story upgrading CPU from Sandy Bridge to current gen. I wonder why the perception across the internet doesn't match the reality here. There's a combination of reasons I would guess. First of all, it's not that peo...

Please re-read the first line of his post -- he says 2500K at 4.5 GHz. Since the 2500K did not ship stock at anything close to that....

Re: 7700k, wow!

Out of curiosity did you OC your 2500k? Since it is a K I'd sort of imagine you at least attempted a slight OC, or were you running stock? It was so easy to OC my 2500K to 4.3 from 3.3 that I actually forgot that I OC'ed it about a year+ ago, on stock cooling with no voltage increase. I only ask to...

Re: Bye, Bloomfield: First Big PC Overhaul

The main thing about going for the super-premium X370 board is longevity and flexibility; it's a lot easier to upgrade a CPU, GPU, SSD than it is to replace the motherboard. Future-proofing a motherboard has been a fool's errand for at least ten years now. If the socket doesn't get changed in the n...

Agreed. I have some doubts that the i5-4590 is bottlenecking a GTX 970. In what games and with what settings? Also... rapid fire browser tab opening slowness seems more likely to be due to internet connection than slow CPU. I just hit "open all" on a folder of bookmarks and experienced no ...

Holy cow. This thread makes me happy me dear old mum didn't let me drink soda until I was in my teens. By then I pretty much had no preference for the stuff. I told my wife the fingerprint reader alone seemed worth the $350. I got her a 5X as well. She never used to lock her phone, regardless of how much I admonished her to do so. Now that she has the fingerprint reader her phone is always locked. It's just begging for trouble not to lock your phone, but...

Re: So, mechanical keyboards

Best if you don't bottom out keys when you type - it can lead to repetitive stress injury, which (from personal experience) can be excruciating. It's one of the reasons I love my Ducky Zero - I can actuate the keys with a slight application of pressure, without needing to bottom out. I'll try, but ...

Nice to see some love for the underappreciated 5X. Man, I love my 5X. It is not flawless. It's laggy sometimes, but I am honestly not bothered by that. I don't need INSTANT responsiveness. Not a particular song, but rather the source: Amazon Prime Music. Pretty awesome. I know it's one of a bunch of similar services out there and may not be the best one, but it comes with my Prime membership and I've never had access to this much music before. Pretty awesome.

This has also served as an interesting anecdotal data point for longevity of burned optical media. I just finished re-loading 168 DVD-Rs worth of WAV files containing the CD rips (over a half TB total) from discs which were burned anywhere from 5 to 13 years ago. Every single one of them read witho...

Gotta agree with others - you've got an R9 390. Put some lotion on that itchy and try to relax. I know the itchy feeling well, but patience always pays off. I would think it best for you to sit on that R9 390 until AMD launches the high end Radeons. That's late this year, right? And yeah availabilit...
