Re: Air conditioning: Dual-zone mini split vs two portable units

For the interested, my car has a condenser pinhole leak. They refilled it but it'll cost me 900 for the part, plus labor to repair it. My trade in value is above what I owe on it, highly considering getting rid of it. Mazda has really left a bad taste in my mouth. My first, and likely last. A 2.5 ye...

Not something I've ever considered - the window this is going in is oriented SW.

edit: We have lots of tree cover though, so much so that we can't grow anything in our yard for lack of direct sunlight.

Re: Air conditioning: Dual-zone mini split vs two portable units

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I am rather ignorant in many things "handyman" that I could use some advice on. I have a 4 floor home that gets humid and hot during this time of year. So I've opted for a window AC since portable units aren't all that portable and we have funky window sizes ...

Re: Air conditioning: Dual-zone mini split vs two portable units

Because my less than 3 year old Mazda's AC just blows hot air now for reason unknown. Are you still in your 3/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty window? 3 years yes, but just eclipsed 42K miles so ultimately no. I'm really hoping it's just a freon recharge - though I really doubt it is unless it somehow ...

Re: Air conditioning: Dual-zone mini split vs two portable units

Just got the weekly e-mail from the utility. If their numbers are right (and how would I disprove?), running both outlets of a 30K BTU Mitsu split for a week of 95F/70F temps (at 65F/68F thermostat settings) cost me all of an extra $13, and that's at $0.1484/kWh. I knew they were efficient, but day...

"My Time at Portia" - Stardew-esque but more focused on a story driven narrative of how you're helping your town. More focused on building/crafting things with a reasonably deep recipe list, and I'm about 30 hours in and totally absorbed. Never heard of it but took a chance on the steam sa...

https://blog.github.com/2018-06-04-github-microsoft/ I don't think I ever expected to see the day where Microsoft would even have an interest in something like GitHub, let alone enough interest to actually buy it. At least for right now, Microsoft pinkie-swears that not much will change: But more t...

Re: VMWare + Guest VPN

If your VPN client software adds route for 0.0.0.0 through VPN gateway, you won't be able to reach networks not reachable from within VPN network from that machine. You'll have to disable automatic route creation and add routes for private networks [resources] manually, or find out how to configure...

Re: VMWare + Guest VPN

I've tried using the standards fare of ipconfig stuff, winsock reset, and flushing dns etc but there's definitely something goofy going on with DNS. The fact that it replies with the IP address of literally anything is telling of something, but it always times out in the browser to non-vpn resources...

Hi all, I'm running Win10 Enterprise on my host machine, with a VM Ware (player 14) instance running. I have internet access on both the host and the guest without issue. I've been looking as well at 2.1 music-first speakers and am willing to drop some coin. I've been through all of the previous threads and it seems like most every good-sounding 2.1 self-powered "studio monitor" system out there for less than $1,000 has horrible reliability. Yeah same - I ...

I have a large L-shaped home office desk that is currently featuring an old 5.1 Logitech setup. If it matters, my primary us...

I think the OP was just pandering expecting a large number of "OMG ME TOO" responses and to my delight, the realities of real life kicked in. People are diverse. We don't live in a trope of what a 'real' nerd should be. That's a small mindset. http://reddit.com/r/gatekeeping or the "N...

I've become kind of a coffee snob. I'm sure I'm not a snob among snobs, but just above your average coffee drinker in terms of budget and time spent with it. 1. Filtered water at 195 degrees. Much hotter and you'll scorch the grind and ruin the flavor IMO. 2. Fresh grind of your choice. I like Rook'...

I'm looking for something semi-industrial. I don't mind spending the coin if it's reliable. Ideally from a company that doesn't screw you with goofy toner configurations or other non-sense. I just want something that produces good quality images for documents, not so much worried about accurate colo...

Hello - please post some suggestion for best USB wifi adapter. Is ASUS USB-N13 N300 any good? Thanks I bought an off-the-shelf whatever-model at BB. The real difference in my coverage and speeds was spending more than $100 on a router. Her dinky USB adapter wasn't more than $45 or so, and the route...

I think there's some serious potential for abuse there though. If you do that, you'll have people intentionally putting exploitable bugs in released software, then secretly splitting the bug bounty with a co-conspirator who "finds" the exploit. Ideally, the enterprise you work for can aff...

For something as large as an ecosystem as android, I'm really surprised this wasn't found sooner. You'd think that vendors/partners would be paying hand-over-fist for elite talent to try and find these things. The elite talent is already employed by the NSA already to do just that. Not sure about t...

Interesting. I skimmed the article but didn't see anything about how the attack works beyond the overflow. I'm far from an android expert but I would hope that the only thing an open BT connection is looking for is specific connection requests and *anything* else is discarded if it's not paired. So ...

To counter, the pro controller is about the best controller I've ever used. The screen scratches issues are way overblown, I don't have a single blemish on mine and I very often dock and un-dock it. I rarely do. More so on my work laptop, but even then I usually have my own scheme for things.

It may not be of any help, but there's a free program called WinDirStat that will recursively hit all your drive's directories and you can sort them by various things.

Is your API Token-based? Is it rate-limited? I'd worry some internet schmuk quickly abusing your data and exposing your scheme to your ISP when lots of data starts flowing to outbound requests.
