Re: Help me understand, why is there a sport section?

I think the OP was just pandering expecting a large number of "OMG ME TOO" responses and to my delight, the realities of real life kicked in. People are diverse. We don't live in a trope of what a 'real' nerd should be. That's a small mindset. http://reddit.com/r/gatekeeping or the "N...

Re: Your favorite brand of coffee?

I've become kind of a coffee snob. I'm sure I'm not a snob among snobs, but just above your average coffee drinker in terms of budget and time spent with it. 1. Filtered water at 195 degrees. Much hotter and you'll scorch the grind and ruin the flavor IMO. 2. Fresh grind of your choice. I like Rook'...

Best wireless printer

I'm looking for something semi-industrial. I don't mind spending the coin if it's reliable. Ideally from a company that doesn't screw you with goofy toner configurations or other non-sense. I just want something that produces good quality images for documents, not so much worried about accurate colo...

Re: best wifi adpter?

Hello - please post some suggestion for best USB wifi adapter. Is ASUS USB-N13 N300 any good? Thanks I bought an off-the-shelf whatever-model at BB. The real difference in my coverage and speeds was spending more than $100 on a router. Her dinky USB adapter wasn't more than $45 or so, and the route...

Re: Turn Off Bluetooth. [Jack Bauer]DO IT NOW![/Jack Bauer]

I think there's some serious potential for abuse there though. If you do that, you'll have people intentionally putting exploitable bugs in released software, then secretly splitting the bug bounty with a co-conspirator who "finds" the exploit. Ideally, the enterprise you work for can aff...

Re: Turn Off Bluetooth. [Jack Bauer]DO IT NOW![/Jack Bauer]

For something as large as an ecosystem as android, I'm really surprised this wasn't found sooner. You'd think that vendors/partners would be paying hand-over-fist for elite talent to try and find these things. The elite talent is already employed by the NSA already to do just that. Not sure about t...

Interesting. I skimmed the article but didn't see anything about how the attack works beyond the overflow. I'm far from an android expert but I would hope that the only thing an open BT connection is looking for is specific connection requests and *anything* else is discarded if it's not paired. So ...

Is the Switch pro controller the same as the Wii U one? We have one for the Wii U and it's really nice. Not sure - it's this one. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pro-Controller/dp/B01NAWKYZ0 Part of the cost, which I maintain is reasonable, is that the motion controls are built into it. It f...

To counter, the pro controller is about the best controller I've ever used. The screen scratches issues are way overblown, I don't have a single blemish on mine and I very often dock and un-dock it. I don't know what these folks are doing to damage their machines' screens like you see. I haven't had...

Splatoon 2 is out now for download. Pretty fun game, still getting the hang of it. Still haven't gone back to arms. WTF was Nintendo thinking with the whole "use this app that only works on your phone, but not with other apps at the same time, and and and..." just to get multi-party voice ...

Re: Do you use the Windows "Documents" folder?

I rarely do. More so on my work laptop, but even then I usually have my own scheme for things.

It may not be of any help, but there's a free program called WinDirStat that will recursively hit all your drive's directories and you can sort them by various things.

Is your API Token-based? Is it rate-limited? I'd worry some internet schmuk quickly abusing your data and exposing your scheme to your ISP when lots of data starts flowing to outbound requests.

There are a lot of good/decent games out - don't discount Disgaea 5, Binding of Isaac, I am Setsuna, and Shovel Knight. Lots of games right there that many folks have played on other platforms. Disgaea 5 came out on PS4 two years ago. Binding of Isaac and Shovel Knight are practically ancient grand...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

Yeah no. It was barely better than a 1070 in most of the runs. I'm not fanboy of anything - the only thing I care about is performance and cost. For all the hype, you can't help but be let down if you're an AMD aficionado. Another long promised product that's already well over a year behind the curve.

I like my switch a lot. I'm really glad I bought it a few months ago, but there is a real lack of games for it - though this is to be expected with A) a new console and B) timid investors and developers after the Wii U failures. The early adopters despite a really non-existent game library are what...

Gotta love a 3+ year necro due to bots. Any doctor (PCP) can order a blood panel for checking your Test levels among other indicators, but in my experience only specialists can interpret the results correctly. The T range can vary wildly from person to person, and you can still have a 'normal' readi...

There's no way that little amount killed him without a preexisting condition of some sort. The LD50 is like 80-100 cups of coffee. There's no way that as large diet soda, 1 energy drink, and 1 latte is even close to that.

Try switching to something sugar free. A lot of diet soda are sugar free, and some have moved to aspartame free as well if that's something you're concerned with. I like sugar free Redbull personally. Otherwise I just drink water. Sugared sodas are slow death friend. Not to mention we already have a...

If you're not using TypeScript - you should be. Type safety is important to any application beyond a trivial size. All the hate JS gets is usually by folks who haven't written anything on the web since the late 90s and yes there are terrible developers that find JS a great gateway language to progra...

So after much scrutiny and bench marking, it appears that Witcher 3 is mostly if not entirely to blame. I used Fraps to record some random demo playtime and across all games I attempted (GTA V, Witcher 3, Doom, GW2, Grimdawn) every game maxed out doesn't dip below 60fps ever. However, Witcher 3 defi...
